How to Write High Quality Articles Fast When You're a Freelance Writer
You’ve decided to make money online, working as a freelance content writer. But now you find yourself writing all the time and not making any money. You’re exhausted, have no social life, haven’t seen your family in what seems like months, and you feel like a failure. What you hoped would be the start of an exciting new career is now a nightmare.
There is a Solution
Don’t give up if the reason you’re not making money is because you can't write articles fast enough. I have been there before, and there is a solution.
Once I was in a situation where I had 24 hours to write a mixture of 10 articles, blog posts, and guest blog posts ranging from 500 - 700 words. I had plans, and I needed to sleep, so I had to streamline my writing into a process.
Part One of Two: How to Write Articles Fast
This article is longer than I thought, so I broke it up into two articles. This one covers what clients want, and the client-freelance writer relationship.
Client: When I use client, I am referring to website and blog owners who request content and pay a freelance writer to create it. This includes clients you deal with directly and third-parties.
A link to the next article, which covers how to write high-quality articles quickly, is at the end.
What Clients Want
Non-Promotional and Informative SEO Content
Types of Content: Different types of web content needs different writing styles to make it work. The content style I'm talking about in this article is the more common, non-promotional and informative SEO article.
For example, another type of content writing is copywriting, and I will briefly explain the difference between the two in the table below.
Web Content Writing

Client - Freelance Writer Relationship
A lot of bloggers, and website owners don’t write their own content.
They hire someone else to write it. Then they buy the content, and publish it on the internet as if they wrote it.
How much you get paid depends on who you write for. If you’re writing for clients who are cheap, you have to write a lot of articles just to make enough money to eat.
I strongly suggest you only write for them until you get experience, then quit.
After you're experienced, start looking for professionals and businesses with the means to pay you what you're worth. Along with the better pay, they're usually a lot nicer to deal with because they're not as nitpicky, and give you more creative freedom after you've built up trust.
Cons of Writing Online Content For Clients
- A large group of people who request content expect the best, but want to pay next to nothing.
- Their guidelines can be a long, picky list that takes longer to remember than it does to write the content.
Pros of Writing Online Content For Clients
When you write for yourself you have to come up with the topic, do the research, choose keywords, decide the keywords density, write and edit the content and summary, find and add photos, all on your own.
When you write content for other people's websites or blogs, half the work is done for you. This cuts down a lot of research and thinking time for you, as you will see below:
- Clients generally give you the keyword or keyword phrase.
- They tell you how many times to use the keyword in the article and they tell you how to write the article according to their guidelines.
- Clients provide you with a landing page that will be linked to the article. You can save a lot of time doing research, by just going to their landing page. Once you're there, you can scan their website and blog, to get a feel for their brand.
How and Why my Writing Process Was Created
I have always found it easy to write articles, but writing them fast didn't come easily to me. Until I had to.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, I had a lot of words to write and a short time to complete the content before the deadlines. Due to a networking issue I got the assignments at 5:00 pm, and some were due that evening, and the rest the next day.
I HATE missing deadlines, so there was no way that was going to happen. I had to get organized and create a template that I could use for each content type. I had to figure out the quickest way to gather all my research, and physically write faster.
Real Website/Fictitious Article Request
To explain how to write an article fast I'm using a fictitious request, from a random website (www.fansfollowersmart.com).
Random Website: I randomly chose this website. I don't know anything about this website except what I learned from their landing page. I’m not associated with it in any way, and I don't recommend this kind of service. Nevertheless, it is a simple example to use.
Guidelines: These are the special instructions given by the client. I'm using the following guideline for my example: Write a 500 word article that is educational and informative only. Do not mention the client in the article. Use the keyword in the title and every paragraph, at least once.
Fictitious Keyword phrase: Get more twitter followers
Landing Page: www.fansfollowersmart.com

What you need:
- An outline/template: Provided below

- Word document, or whatever you'll use to type your article and save your research.
Article Template or Outline
Template or Outline: You should always have an outline as a guide. This cuts down on your thinking because it organizes your brain with what needs to be done. You can copy and paste it, if you want.
