Somewhere Out There--Poetry

Updated on May 4, 2016

I am a writer of poetry and fiction. I especially love flash fiction. My name is Ruby, and I live in Southern Illinois. I am a retired R.N.

I look for you among the unknowns milling around the docks

Sitting high above the deep blue sea

Catching a glimpse of awakened past memories

Held tightly inside pleading to be set free

White caps dancing merrily across the shore

Remembering the good times once more

Dreamy days of being lazy

Walking through fields of wild, yellow dasies

Building sand castles, strolling barefoot in the tingling white sand

Forever seeking that glowing, bronze tan

Sometimes just doing nothing, holding each other tight

Napping till wee hours in the night

Holding no ridged schedule, living life with heightened delight

Enjoying life, no thought of any heartache pain

Through the torrid storms of life, rarely did it rain

Then one day it happened, the wind began to blow

Waves washing our sand castle's to the sea depth below

No longer walking together, or holding each other's hand

We seemed to drift apart like the wind parted the sand

Now seeing only white caps flapping against the jagged rocks

Forever searching for you among the unknowns milling around the docks

Maybe someday you'll be strolling casually along our once loved sea?

Looking down at the crowd, my eyes see you

Perhaps you'll look up and see me?

Ruby, there are so many emotions here. Peace, tranquility, wonder, joy, sadness, despair, longing and hope. Very engaging poem, my friend.

Wow! This was a beautiful poem of love found and love lost. When you find someone who you love deeply, you never know if it will last. In the beginning you never know if its lust or the real thing, but we continue to search for the real thing. This was truly beautiful Ruby.

Bitter/Sweet but beautiful poem. I've always admired couples who celebrate anniversaries. It's such a wonderful blessing. When couples lose their partner early in life, not many find that kind of love again.

      Thanks Ruby.

Hello Mike, feeling a bit melancholy tonight, instead of a flash fiction, poetry came to mind. A song does that for me. Happy you thought it was a moving piece. Thank you so much.....

Excellent. A bit like a short roller coaster. But you gave me some hope at the end. Some poems can immediately carry you away - this one did.
