Only five seconds . . .

Five short, insignificant measures of a useless time . . .

Is all I ask . . .

Just five lone seconds . . .

To tell "the" one who drown my heart . . .

Saturated my spirit . . .

With such an absolute loving scent, only held in a heartbeat . . .

And blinded my fleshly eyes to the bondage of rules . . .

Does the heart know such limits . . .?

Or such depths of a pure, untarnished pain . . .?

Can one mortal speak such from a heart that is beyond repair . . .?

I only ask for these five seconds . . .

Years have mocked, stalked and glared back at my longing spirit . . .

Then time itself turned to ask, "if I give you one grant, just one, what would it be . . .?

I trembled as if I I were seeing my own birth . . .

The angels' perfect linen wings ceased their perfect rhythms . . .

Once I lashed at innocent butterfly's set flight . . .

Made light of the canary's lovesick moan . . .

Dirtied the clean water, her satin, and seam . . .

I hated my very heart . . .

And I fell foolishly to my weary, worn knees . . .

The only utterance my muted lips could speak . . .

was "please" . . .

Please . . .

Only five seconds . . .

You can do with the remnant of my soul what you please . . .

And cast my name against the sod and laugh as I become ashes . . .

But only five seconds . . .

Would be all the time I really need . . .

To nurture, love, caress and feed . . .

The hunger only one with my "wound" can feel . . .

Just five seconds . . .

To lose myself in her eyes as youths at play . . .

Turn back your measure of time . . .

Only five seconds . . .

Only five seconds I beg of you . . .

To you it's just child's play . . .

The Master of savage, raging beasts and silently falling birds . . .

Your heart has to have that one space . . .

Just five seconds . . .

I would gladly dance on your lightning piercing a trembling face . . .

Eat the filth of ages past--and curse the places first and last . . .

Digest your lies and ne'er flinch . . .

Just grant me, this wayward servant one meaningless wish . . .

I am exhausted and have exhausted you with my begging . . .

Tears dried in my eyes, tongue ceases my pleas . . .

The serpent licks a skin too closely . . .

You regard its place while hiding from my deathly face . . .

So if you will . . .

Only five seconds . . .

None more. None less . . .

I will labor to curse your foes or bow to bless your chosen . . .

Then, and only then, if she leaves and walks on songs out of my breath . . .

Then I will gladly embrace the cold, heartless, merciless face of death . . .

Only five seconds . . .

Only five seconds . . .

      Hello, Prisana,

Under the circumstances in (this) setting, five seconds is all I would need. But thanks for the input.

      Write me anytime.

Beautiful poetry, Kenneth. Sorry some bad people wrecked your birdhouse, maybe they will be caught, if they are going after the copper. Hang in there, and I pray for you all the time.

      My Dear Jean Bakula,

A sincere thank you for your sweet and comforting words. And thanks too for your much-needed prayers. I need them every day.

God has blessed me with a great friend and handyman who came this morning and he and his helper rewired my shop from my attic and ran the wire straight to the roof of my shop plus installed a light for me and eight outlets. He is such a great guy to do this on such short notice.

The people around our town do this, steal copper to sell for drug money and they even stoop so low as to steal from churches who have central heat and air systems.

      Sad, to say the least.

Dear Jean, thanks again for being my Special Friend and Follower.

      Write me anytime.

Great poetry, Kenneth! You have a soulful plea here and you choose the words well, making the rhythm fit the turmoil.
