Murder by the Written Word Conclusion
“So, two undesirable characters, Marvin Montgomery and Jack ‘The Sparrow’ Murphy will be spending a long time wearing prison garb for sabotaging Andrews Industries. The lady who loves orange lip stick, Nora Welch, will never get to Big Ernie’s Bar and Grill again to buy her favorite orange lipstick as she has been arrested for the murder of Margaret Andrews.”
“Jimmy Welch, AKS Martin Andrews lies six feet under and will blackmail no one else. Annabelle is together with her little son and now his twin sister Melissa, Dale’s mother. Albert Andrews has recovered completely from the stroke he suffered and will be released from the hospital tomorrow. There is a very nice retired nurse who will be more than happy to take care of Mr. Andrews. Hopefully our little town can once again be a quiet and peaceful place to live and raise our children.”
“Tiffany Armstrong, Lead Journalist”
The three sat silent for a moment. The silence was broken only by a dog barking outside. Finally, Blondie arose and cleared away the empty mugs.
“Wow! I need some fresh coffee. Anyone else?” Blondie offered.
“This little lady has got to get across the street to the newspaper office where she can print copies from her IPad and turn those notes over to her boss before the deadline,” Dale said as he winked at Tiffany. Tiffany slid out of the booth and started toward the door.
“Tiffany, I’ll be right here waiting for you, “Dale assured her.
“Tiffany,” called Blondie. “How long are you going to be gone. I’m going to fix you and Detective Dale the best breakfast you’ve ever eaten.”
“I’ll be back in about fifteen minutes and I’m starved, “Tiffany replied as she left the diner. Dodging a couple of wary cars, Tiffany ambled her way across the street. Then going through the revolving doors, she entered the elevator to shortly reach the tenth floor.
Richard Grendel sat at his desk reading his paper, The Gazette. Tiffany gave a quick rap on the door and entered his office.
“Well, how nice of you to show up. I was just getting Eddy ready to go over to the jail and get the scoop on all that’s been going on. Have you been on vacation, Tiffany?” Grendel snapped at the young journalist.
Tiffany tossed the crisp sheets of printed paper on Grendel’s desk. At first, he was apprehensive in turning the papers over. However, seeing the look on Tiffany’s face; he reluctantly turned them over. For the first time since she had met Richard Grendel she looked forward to their conversation.
“What’s this, Armstrong … a few papers from your latest novel.” Grendel mocked before catching Tiffany’s disdainful glance.
Without hesitation Tiffany began,
“Hardly Mr. Grendel. You can read it or you can toss it in the garbage can. It happens to contain the secrets of the Andrews family, the facts about the sabotage at Andrews Industries, the killing of Martin Andrews, who was really Jimmy Welch, the murder of Margaret Andrews by Nora Welch and more. I don’t really give a damn if you read it or not. That’s not important to me anymore.”
“Hold up, Tiffany. Let me take a look at this. You might make a first rate journalist for my paper yet.” Richard exclaimed.
“I don’t have the time to stand here while you read it. I’m giving the story to you. You can put your name on the by-line. It will be such a feather in your cap. I’m much too busy to give you one more minute, and as for your job, you can take it and shove it!”
“Wait just a minute, young lady—I don’t think you realize what you’re giving up. I can tell that this is going to be good. Why don’t you pour yourself a cup of java and let me look this over?” Grendel replied not believing that Tiffany was really serious about leaving.
“No thanks, Grendel—I’m out of here.”
Turning abruptly, Tiffany walked out of his office, slammed the door behind her and hurried across the street. She was rushing to the man she loved and who was waiting for her to plan their wedding. She was also rushing to Blondie who was fixing the best breakfast Tiffany had ever seen.
