Got Those Down Home Blues

Updated on June 28, 2016
Down home Blues...
Down home Blues...

Way down yonder in Louisiana, just banging out my Blues tune on an old piano,

Left my good home over in Savannah, wearing holy jeans and my red bandana.

Got a ride on a train at the railroad track, won't see me no more, ain't going back.

Smoked my cigarettes, to my last pack, got no sleep, cause of that clickety-clack.

I got those down home, down home kinda Blues...

They won't see me no more, till I've paid my dues.

Won'rt see me no more...till I've paid my dues...
Won'rt see me no more...till I've paid my dues...

When I came to town, was by dark of the night, walked into this old cafe,

Sat down at a table, Juke box playing, bought a cold brew, no better way.

Took my turn on the slots, spent my last quarter, cause I missed my shots,

Got me a job there slinging hash, picking up all the trash, sleeping on cots.

I got those down home...down home kinda blues,

They won'rt see me no more, till I've paid my dues.

Walked into town by the dark of the night...
Walked into town by the dark of the night...

Got a job on the river boat, dealing Black Jack, soon made a small roll,

Was living big, bought new duds, hit me a jack pot, just about like gold,

Made the best decision of my life, next to my wife, as my cards I did fold,

Now, I'm back home, found a good job, on an honest life, I've been sold.

I've got those down home, those down home kinda Blues,

Finally paid back, yes I finally paid back all my dues.

Not going back there till I've paid my dues...
Not going back there till I've paid my dues...

Now, if somebody asks you to leave your home, go far away to roam, don't go,

Stay home where you been raised, you'll be happy all of your days, you know.

Ain't no better place to be, one of greatest certainty, where roots are, you'll see.

I'll never leave this place, down home smile upon my face, for it has set me free.

I've got those down home, down home kinda blues,

I'm never ever leaving there, cause I paid my dues.

finally paid back all my dues...
finally paid back all my dues...
