Wandering Groves: Undetermined Events (Originally Grove Suites) Chapter 6

I have a vast interest in numerous topics. I write about many different things.

Unbeknownst to both Cara and the detective Bob had overheard the whole conversation that they had just had. He now knew that Ruben was in contact with Cara. He also now knew exactly what he had to do next. Taking his cell phone out of his pocket he called Ruben. “Hello?” answered Ruben after two rings.

“Hey, can you meet me at our usual place?” asked Bob in a commanding voice, “We need to talk.”

“Don’t you think it would be dangerous to meet right now?” questions Ruben cautiously, “I mean Cara is a bit suspicious as it is, with Lisa missing.”

“No!” snaps Bob “Just meet me at our usual place in three hours.”

“Okay!” responds Ruben just before he snaps his phone shut ending the call.

Three hours later….

Muttering to himself about Ruben’s incompetence, Bob stands in the middle of the room at the no name apartment awaiting his partners arrival.

Hearing a scratching noise from the other room Bob cusses and goes to check on his daughter Lisa, “Hey, quiet down!” he hollers as he walks into the room to stare at the young girl sitting in the middle of the floor.

“Bob?” questions Ruben from the other room.

“What?” asks Bob as he leaves Lisa once again in the room alone and goes to talk to his partner.

“Bob! What is that scratching sound?” questions Ruben as he tilts his head to the side and listens.

“My daughter!” exclaims Bob sarcastically as he stares at the other man and then scoffs, “Rather I should say your daughter.”

“What? I don’t have a daughter!” proclaims Ruben staring at Bob with a strange look.

“Oh, but you do.” Laughs Bob sarcastically as he advances on the other man and says, “You and my wife have a daughter together.”

Gulping loudly Ruben starts to back toward the door and exclaims, “You’ve lost your mind Bob.”

Turning slightly to pick something up off the nearest table Bob turns back to Ruben, holds the papers out to him and says, “I beg to differ, Ruben, maybe you should have a look at this and then check in the other room.”

Halting in his tracks Ruben just kind of stares at Bob and then asks, “Why should I?”

“Hmm…” ponders Bob, “Aren’t you the least bit curious what I am holding, Ruben?”

“Okay, I am listening.” States Ruben as he looks at the other man trying to gage his thoughts.

“Here, take these papers and read them.” Answers Bob as he stares at Ruben and holds the papers out once again for him to take.

Taking the papers out of his hand Ruben notices that it is a DNA test proving the Bob is not Lisa’s father and another that proves Lisa is his daughter. Turning slowly to look at Bob he questions, “How did you get my DNA to take this test?”

Laughing hysterically Bob replies, “That was so easy. Remember when we went out and had those couple of drinks?”

“Yea, I remember.” States Ruben with a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.

“Well, you passed out afterwards and I was able to get your DNA and send it in to be checked against Lisa’s’. I mean after all I have had my suspicions for a while now.” Answers Bob as he glares at the other man.

“But why go through all this trouble?” questions Ruben, “I mean you have raised her for thirteen years as your own daughter. Why worry about this now?”

“Because I am tired of living a lie and pretending that I love the little brat when she isn’t even mine.” Scoffs Bob as he turns and picks something else up off the table.

“What are you doing?” questions Ruben staring at Bob as he turns back to him with a gun in his hand.

“Oh, I am going to get rid of you and the girl, just like I tried to get rid of her stupid mother.” Replies Bob calmly as he points the gun directly at Rubens heart.

“Wouldn’t that leave you as the prime suspect if she turned up dead?” asks Ruben as he stares back and forth between Bob and the door.

“No!” States Bob in a menacing voice, “Don’t even think of running, Ruben, cause if you do that will just seal both your fates.”

Visibly shaken Ruben nods and looks at Bob directly and askes, “What do you want me to do?”

“Hmm…I haven’t thought about it really.” States Bob as he looks back at Ruben and runs his hand though his hair while continuing to hold the gun trained on him.

Just then Ruben notices a movement behind Bob and in an attempt to keep his attention trained in his direction he asks, “What exactly are you planning to do with Lisa?”

“Oh, she might return to her mother and then again I might just keep her after I kill you.” Answers Bob nonchalantly as he stares at Ruben.

Just as Ruben goes to respond to him a loud noise is heard throughout the apartment as Lisa connects a large frying pan with the back of Bob’s head. In an instant he squeezes the trigger, the bullet connects with Rubens shoulder and they both hit the ground at the same time. The gun falls from Bobs hand and lands on the floor. Lisa screams and rushes over to Ruben and hits the floor beside him and just as she goes to speak Bob growls and starts to get up.

Ruben sensing the danger picks up the gun and fires one shot. It connects with Bob just below his hairline and he falls back to the floor. Looking up at Lisa Ruben says just before he blacks out, “I am so sorry!”
