The Magic of an Audio File Part-2

I discovered my passion for writing after I quit my day job. So I began to write fiction stories, self-help books, and articles, blogs, etc.

My nephews were still excelling in English essays at school. The demand for my bestselling book was ever increasing. I was all smiles, and I decided to investigate the case of the audio file further.

While I had removed and deleted the audio file from my laptop, I remembered it remained on the original flash drive. I decided to call my friend, Sally, who had given it initially to me at the park premises.

“Sally”, I said, “remember you gave me an audio file in the park premises about eight months ago?”

“Yes”, said Sally, “I guess it helped. I saw your book on Amazon in the bestselling status.”

I said, "While it helped me a lot, and I am in praise of the audio file, which made this happen, I want to ask how you came across the audio file."

“Well”, said Sally, “a distant cousin of mine once gave it to me and said that if I listened to it, it would boost my creativity.”

“Did it help you some way?” I asked out of great curiosity.

“Yes, after listening to some of it, I am doing a lot of good, painting portraits of people and selling them.”

“Maybe you would be interested in getting your portrait painted by me”, said Sally, kidding me.

“Yes, I would be interested in getting my portrait painted by you and especially in meeting you”, I said.

“So, you have more questions about the audio file”, said Sally, wittingly.

“Yes, Sally, you have already figured it out”, I said with a laugh. “When can I meet you to get my portrait painted?”

“Let me look at my schedule”, said Sally.

“Will the weekend be a good time for you? Then we can chitchat as much as we like”, she added.

“Yes, perfect. Give me a date and time”, I said enthusiastically.

"Sure. Saturday at 12.30 pm. It takes me 30 minutes to paint a portrait. Then we can be free to talk and have lunch together. I prefer not to talk while painting. Sounds good?"

“Sure, Sally. I will be right there in the coming weekend. Thanks for your cooperation.”

“My pleasure”, said Sally happily.

I stayed in anticipation of the weekend all week. When Saturday came, I drove to Sally's place, about 15 minutes away from my home.

I rang the bell, and almost immediately, Sally greeted me. It was an apartment on the ground floor of an immaculate complex.

Sally asked me to come inside. We both had orange juice before she started painting my portrait in her backyard.

Her backyard was sunny, full of natural greeneries. Sally asked me to be my comfortable self so that she could grip on a good portrait of me. She was done within 30 minutes as she had promised. She handed it over to me and asked me what I thought about it.

I looked amazed at my portrait. "Was I that pretty?" I thought secretly. Aloud I said, "Simply awesome, Sally."

Sally went on to say that she charged a discounted price for friends and loved ones, and I qualified for the discount. I produced my credit card to her assistant, and she charged $50 on my card.

Soon Sally and I were on our way to the dining space. She had a teenage maid lay lunch on the table. She helped the maid cook a variety of delicious dishes. Their very sight brought water to my mouth, and I longed to taste them.

We settled in chairs across the dining table, and we helped ourselves. Sally made sure I took enough to fulfill my appetite.

And then, I started the series of my questions.

“Sally, do you remember how you got hold of the audio file?”

“Yes, I told you. A distant cousin gave it to me.”

“Can you give me his name?”

“Sorry, my friend”, said Sally. “I am not allowed to tell his name to anyone.”

“Is it Samuel by any chance?” I asked directly.

“How’d you guess?” asked Sally, surprised.

“It was Samuel, a fellow writer who warned me not to listen to the end of the recording when I mentioned to him that I had only listened to a part of it. He even asked me to delete it.”

“Oh!” said Sally. “Yes, I remember him telling the same to me. But I didn’t pay attention.”

“Does that mean you listened to the whole of the recording?” I asked.

"No, I didn't. I just listened to a part, and then I got bored and put it away."'

“I see, Sally”, I said. “Is there any particular reason why Samuel wouldn’t like us to hear until the end of the recording?”

“I am not sure”, said Sally.

“Did Samuel engulf in any bad luck after listening to the recording?”

“Well, he has had bud luck. But I don’ know if it’s linked to the audio file.”

“Like what?” I asked inquisitively.

"Well, his book business thrived. No questions that way. But his wife gave birth to a stillborn child a month later after he heard the audio file until the end. Then his wife passed away two months later from a stroke. Samuel is still struggling with his firstborn’s psychology, who suffered a big trauma at the chain of events. Even he incurred losses in his side hustles while his major business still survived successfully."

"Thank you, Sally, for answering my questions honestly and sincerely. I would like to leave now. Thank you for the lunch and everything else as well."

“You are so kind”, said Sally, choking. “Thank you for paying me a visit.”

“It was my pleasure”, I said happily. "I would like to talk to Samuel next if you don't mind."

“Sure, talk to him and clear all your doubts about the audio file.”

We both laughed together, and I left Sally’s place.

I am pleased that you enjoyed this part of the story. Yes, one has to be very cautious about this audio, and Samuel is trying his best to convince others not to listen to the end as it is an omen of bad luck. Listening to a part of it is only good for anyone.

Thank you, Lorna, for your generous and meaningful comments. Stay tuned until Part-3 which is going to be the final part.

Lorna Lamon on November 15, 2020:

I enjoyed the way this story unfurled Rosina. Bad luck does seem to have attached itself to the ending of this audio, as we have seen with Samuel. Perhaps he was only supposed to have a certain amount of good luck, however, I would be very cautious about this audio.

Once again you have created a wonderful backdrop to this second instalment and your writing just keeps getting better. Another enjoyable read Rosina.

Rosina S Khan (author) on November 15, 2020:

Thank you, Chitrangada, for enjoying this story. Stay tuned for Part-3. Appreciate your comments as always.

Rosina S Khan (author) on November 15, 2020:

Thank you, Fran, for saying that. I want to convince all my readers that the end of the audio is not worth listening to. Only a part of it brings immense good luck. Thank you for enjoying the story and for commenting.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on November 15, 2020:

Good of you to continue this Interesting story. Seems like we would have another wonderful chapter.

Thank you Rosina, for sharing your creative thoughts.

fran rooks from Toledo, Ohio on November 15, 2020:

Rosina, great story. Because of Samuel's streak of bad luck, I would not want to listen to more of the tape. Interesting story.

Rosina S Khan (author) on November 15, 2020:

No, this is not a new book, Pamela. I am writing Part-2 and Part-3 on requests from some of my readers. They would like me to unfurl the mystery of the tape even more. I had fun writing this one and I hope you enjoyed it. Your comments are very much appreciated.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 15, 2020:

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on November 15, 2020:

You wrote this part very well, Rosina. It would be hard not to listen to the end of the audio file, but having heard of Samuel’s bad luck, losing his wife and child, I wouldn’t be tempted. Looking forward to part three.

Rosina S Khan (author) on November 15, 2020:

I am glad you will stay tuned and would like to know what happens next. The story will not have a clue inside the author's portrait but it is going to end in some other interesting way. Thanks for reading and commenting, Brenda. Truly appreciated.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on November 15, 2020:

I am glad I got to read your second part of this one.

It is amazing that samuel is her cousin but she is successful and he is suffering with crisis.

I find it hard to believe she didn't listen to the ending either, but she is successful.

I look forward to reading more.

I must admit though it doesn't have the same enticing energy as the first one.

I love the story...don't get me wrong. Just the first one had me sitting on the edge of my seat.

I will be staying tuned. I want to know what happens next.

I know you have the words inside you...dig deep.

Maybe she painted a secret clue inside your portrait like Michael DeAngelo, or Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

Here's a link to some of those stories. https://www.the-sun.com/lifestyle/tech/693336/secr...

Take care and have a great day.

Rosina S Khan (author) on November 15, 2020:

Lora, I am extremely joyous that you enjoyed this episode. I am further delighted that you will stay tuned. The next part will be the last part of the story. Yes, keep looking forward to the next part. I hope I can capture still my readers' interest. Stay blessed.

Lora Hollings on November 15, 2020:

Your story is really becoming intriguing now, Rosina. I like the way you have weaved your characters into the plot and this mysterious element at the end of the tape which has caused the misfortunes of Samuel. I wonder if curiosity will eventually overcome our protagonist's caution or if she will be able to get more information from Samuel about the ending of this tape. I will definitely stay tuned! Excellent job on this second part. I look forward to reading the next chapter.
