Keily, the Bookworm Part-27

I discovered my passion for writing after I quit my day job. So I began to write fiction stories, self-help books, and articles, blogs, etc.

Keily and Shakhil were still single, making plans.

Keily mentioned to Shakhil that her Mom and sister, Natalie could only come to the US in the next month of July at the end.

Shakhil was thinking hard to make it all fit into the puzzle.

“Okay”, said Shakhil. “Since UCLA mentioned you could start work as early as the 20th of this month (June, 2004), we had better move to LA before the date. Besides, our apartments’ contracts will expire at the month’s end.”

He added, “Today is the 11th of June. Let's move the majority of our stuff on the 13th. You take all of your stuff including the PC and leave the apartment. I have seen a good apartment for us to live in LA. I will talk with the Landlord about renting it to us. I will tell him that I will come on Sunday, the 13th June and pay him all that is required preliminarily.

Keily said, “That sounds like a good idea. Let’s hope everything falls together. Since when did you start looking for apartments in LA? That intrigues me.”

Shakhil replied, “I have been planning for a long time. You will like the apartment. I have plans now to rent another apartment but cheaper and smaller where I can stay for the time being. Does that sound good?”

Keily smiled, “Certainly. You think of everything.”

She added, "Well, will I let my family know that they can start making preparations to come to LA at the end of July, the next month?

Shakhil replied, “Sure, Keily.”

Accordingly, Keily called her family and let them know of the change in their plans and updated them about how they should proceed from now on.

13th June arrived, and the moving van they ordered was in sight near Keily’s apartment at 10 o’clock sharp. As Keily had less furniture, several kitchen utensils and suitcases, her apartment got emptied within 30 minutes. Next, the van moved to Shakhil’s place. Shakhil had a few more belongings but decided to move the majority of them to the van now.

The van filled up, and the van driver was on the way to their LA address.

Meanwhile, a friend helped them to reach the airport, and Shakhil and Keily boarded the plane at noon, and within 2 hrs 50 min the plane landed in LA. A taxicab took them to their desired address.

Shakhil showed Keily the apartment he chose for their married life. He went to the Landlord to make legal advanced payments and asked Keily to come over and sign the contract. Shakhil also signed it. The Landlord happily gave them the keys.

Shakhil showed her the inside of the apartment. It was furnished- so Keily loved it even more. She went to each window and found out what was in sight. It was, on the overall, a good-looking and exquisite apartment.

Meanwhile, Shakhil set off to rent a smaller and cheaper apartment nearby according to plan. The moving van reached Keily’s apartment in LA at 7:00 pm. They unloaded all their stuff, and the van left.

Keily and Shakhil got busy arranging all their belongings and fitting them in the right places.

In two days, Keily had internet service and could sit down at her PC and browse the web, which she enjoyed.

Shakhil didn’t spend money on the internet at his apartment. If he ever needed to browse over the web, he would use Keily’s.

20th June came. Keily joined her work at UCLA, which was within walking distance from her apartment.

Meanwhile, Shakhil also started working at the Microsoft branch office. He took his car for a 15-minute drive to his workplace.

Keily and Shakhil met in the evening to cook and have meals together. By night, Shakhil went to his apartment.

July arrived. The month raced fast until it was time for Keily’s family to fly to LA. Keily accompanied Shakhil in his car to reach the airport. They met Keily’s Mom and sister and greeted them warmly.

They loaded their suitcases inside Shakhil’s car and reached their bigger apartment. Keily served them meals and showed them the extra bedroom where they could rest.

Meanwhile, Shakhil’s brother and family arrived from Houston and embarked on to Shakhil’s apartment.

They all got together in the bigger apartment in the evening and made introductions. Soon a date was fixed for the marriage: Thursday, 29th July 2004.

Shakhil and his elder brother got busy tracking down a Kazi, who could marry the former and Keily together. Soon they found one who was good and friendly too, and it was all arranged.

The significant day arrived. Keily and Shakhil put on their best and newest outfits, which they had shopped while in UT-Austin.

The Kazi came on time. And he skillfully recited holy verses and married Keily and Shakhil together. Shakhil kissed his brand new bride for the first time. He was pleased. Keily never experienced so much bliss before, and the experience was new for her.

Dates were distributed all around the residence, and all present showered blessings over the newly married couple.

Natalie and Mom thought Keily made the right choice in selecting her husband. He was so sincere, honest and friendly- just perfect for Keily.

They stayed for 10 days and left for their own country. Shakhil’s brother and family left for Houston.

Soon Shakhil broke off the temporary contract with his small apartment and moved on to the bigger apartment with Keily.

Keily was very happy and let Shakhil kiss her again. She enjoyed it every time.

They continued going to work. Keily went walking to the campus while Shakhil drove 15 minutes to reach his workplace.

Two years went by. Keily taught classes and guided teaching assistants (TA’s) about how to handle lab work for students. Soon she was researching with Ph.D. students, writing research papers along with them and enjoying the mojo of life. She also had M.Sc students whom she loved supervising in their theses as well.

It brought back Keily many fond memories with Dr. Mili, who taught her how to research and write research papers. Back in UT-Austin, she had co-authored with Dr. Mili many research papers based on her theses during M.Sc and P.hD. studies and had them accepted in various reputable journals and conferences.
