Understanding Peace and How You Can Have Peace

Peace: Definition

Peace is much more than the absence of conflict and chaos. Real peace involves wholeness and completeness that includes health, justice, prosperity, protection, security, and safety.

Some people pray for peace. Some people pray for peace of mind. However, very few people pray for inner peace. Is there a difference? Yes, there is a difference.

General Peace

General peace is the umbrella for all types of peace. It is the general prayer for calmness and harmony in the absence of disruption and chaos. General peace is the type of peace that people pray for without specifying the area of the peace they desire.

When a person prays for peace, it is more effective when he specifies the area for which he desires it. Peace could include calmness and harmony about one's health, family, relationships, or job.


Peace of Mind

Praying for peace of mind is more specific. However, it is limited to just the mind that includes only mental stability. It does not include anything else. Peace of mind means having a mind that is not restless or confused.

It is praying for a mind that is free from stress, anger, and agitation. You could pray for peace of mind and still have the rest of your life falling apart.

Inner Peace

There is a big difference between peace of mind and inner peace. Inner peace is the deepest and most effective type of peace. That type of peace includes calmness within a person's entire being including his mind, body and soul. Inner peace refers to a deliberate state of being spiritually calm no matter what is happening around a person.

During the Christmas season, people send cards bearing the words "Peace on earth." That is the concept for world peace for everyone on Planet Earth. Unfortunately, some people pray that prayer only during the Christmas season when it should be prayed all year long.

How to Have Inner Peace

Since inner peace is something that most people need, here are some things that can be done to get and maintain inner peace.

  1. Read and study the Bible daily
  2. Pray to God
  3. Thank God
  4. Praise God
  5. Worship God
  6. Meditate
  7. Journal
  8. Sing hymns and spiritual songs
  9. Be around positive people
  10. Eliminate gossip
  11. Eliminate complaining
  12. Forgive others
  13. See the beauty in the world
  14. Be positive

Scriptures About Peace

No matter what situation you are facing, reading and meditating on some comforting scriptures about peace will help. Therefore, if you have to make a major decision, you can have peace about it. You can have peace if you are dealing with chaos in your family, turmoil on your job, or even misunderstandins in your church. The Bible has lots of scriptures that will give you peace.

John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

Romans 5:1
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 15:13
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."

Philippians 4:7
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Colossians 3:15
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”

2 John 1:3
“Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love.”

Benefits of Inner Peace

Having inner peace helps people live and do their daily activities more effectively. It enables people to act in a calm manner even in difficult situations. We live in a world where people are worried, stressed and depressed. Unfortunately, suicide is on the rise.

Inner peace is needed because there are many benefits.

  • Sharper mental power
  • Improved memory
  • Increased ability to study and learn
  • Positive disposition
  • Better relationships
  • High productivity at work
  • Motivation for daily affairs
