The Action of Encouragement

Life on a whole has its challenges and it is the action of encouragement that will enable us to overcome trials. The Action of encouragement is not just words but words with action. When someone is facing trials or some difficult situation, word of encouragement is good but a helping hand where possible is better. Our resources in the time of need will be a blessing and for sure encourages the heart of the person in his or her situation.

This kind of encouragement brings hope. As Christians our challenges will become greater because our lifestyle opposes the works of the enemy. It is in our trials we will be able to prove God’s awesome power. Encouraging each other will be helpful as we go through trials. Our self will and knowledge has its limitations so encouragement is needed for success. We should not be alarmed by trials because it is written in the scriptures that we must go through trials. The Bible tells us that those who live godly shall suffer persecution.

Encouraging The Body Of Christ

The church of the Living God develops the saints to achieve their divine purpose. Leaders are supposed to live an exemplary life with integrity and faith so that the saints can be motivated. As the church grew Peter an Apostle of Jesus Christ had to be encouraging the saints because some began to face persecution. Peter told the saints in 1 Peter 4: 12 “Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you as though some strange things happen unto you but rejoice in that ye are partakers of Christ suffering, that when His glory shall be revealed ye may be glad also”

This was a solid word of encouragement because it was a victorious end. Peter encouraged the saints not to waiver in their thoughts as they faced the fiery trial because at the end the glory of God is revealed, and they will be rejoicing in their victory.

Trying Times for The Church Today

Today it is no different as many things that the church should speak about are censored by those in authority. We must also remember that even Peter was challenged for the word of God. He said to the council that was making their ungodly demand in Acts 5: 29 “We ought to obey God rather than man”

In these last days as the Bible tells us that perilous times shall come. Today we are experiencing almost everything the Bible tells us. The power of encouragement is necessary today even more than before. The fear of the Lord has even departed from some churches. There are those in churches who will oppose our obedience to Christ. Many leaders have turned the preaching of the gospel into a business venture. This creates a negative impact on the spiritual growth of the members. There should be no room for compromise therefore we must encourage the members to stand for the truth. Such compromise will become an open door for evil to create destruction.

Prophetic Admonition

By the action of encouragement, God sends His word through His prophets to strengthen the people. There are crucial times in scriptures when God has to step in and with a word, especially when His people are being threatened. God’s words would remind them of who they are and who He is to them.

Today there is a struggle in the office of the prophetic. The prophetic gift in the body of Christ is very dynamic. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 14: 3 “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification and exhortation, and comfort” Those who operate in this gift are set to speak the manifestation of changes in the lives of people.

  • Edification- This is the enlightening of one’s intellectual capacity in a positive manner. This generally takes place when we listen, read or see something that we are able to learn from. (See Philippians 4: 8)
  • Exhortation- This is speaking strongly to empower those who are hearing so they can be able to understand and do the right thing. (See Hebrews 3: 13)
  • Comfort- This is to lessen others burden or sorrow with comforting words. (See 1 Thessalonians 4: 18)

Leaders Need Encouragement

Leaders are encouraged when they know that there are people praying for them. They are at the forefront of spiritual battles and they need armour bearers. At the time of battle when Moses hand was hold up Israel prevailed

After the death of Moses it was Joshua who had to take up the mantle to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land. God Himself had to encourage Joshua to be strong and courageous. The beauty about the encouragement that Joshua received was that God knew what Joshua needed to move forward.

Paul expressed his gratitude in his letters to the churches for the action of encouragement they displayed. He received a good report that assured him that his labor among the saints was not in vain. Paul also expressed his gratitude to the saints at the church in Philippi for sending gifts to him (Philippians 4: 15-19). Christ sent leaders among us that labor in the vineyard that has needs. When we seek to fulfill these needs, it brings encouragement to them.
