Do We Depend on God or on Ourselves?
Our life here on earth will never be easy because we're like on a battlefield where if you do not have a shield and armor, you will never be able to fight or defend yourself. A lot of things going on left and right that other people don't want to dwell on them because these will just make them so stressed out. I agree with that because I myself experience a lot of challenges too that sometimes I just let them pass.
When facing trials, who do we depend on? what are the things that we shouldn't and do? how do we handle this kind of event in our lives? and the most interesting question is, why do we have trials here on earth? These are the questions that we might have in our minds right now because sometimes when we are overwhelmed with the things going on in our lives, we can no longer think straight and then we become lost or stuck in the middle of nowhere.
People have their own ways on how to handle the problems they encounter. Some of us will just continue the journey as if the problem is not in front of us, it is on pending status or ignored. Others would really dwell on the problems like they never stop thinking about it until it gets resolved because it makes them so anxious and they are depending on themselves so much. The rest would choose to be calm, to have peace of mind, and to stay hopeful and expectant by running to Jesus and surrendering the problem to Him.
If we are going to think about how hard life is, we will understand that we are not able and only God is. So if something is making our steps so slow, our minds poisoned and weakened our bodies, what do we do? Are we going to force ourselves to fight the fight alone? or run to our Father who is more capable to fight for us?
When Do We Say We Are Loving God?
How do we know if we genuinely love God? That probably seems like an odd question to most of us. Of course, we love God, and we just know that we love Him.
But is that good enough? Is it enough to just know and feel that we love God? Is anything else involved?
Most of the time we only say we love God if things are doing good, but if things are doing the opposite we are having a hard time saying we love Him, or worse we complain. Sometimes we couldn't even say that we love God while in the middle of our hardships. This is the perfect event to ask ourselves if we truly love God because loving Him is not just when things are going smoothly, or only if we feel like saying it. Loving God shouldn't be unconditional just like how He loves us.
Here are the things that will show we truly love God:
- To love God is to put Him first - No matter what you are going through, whether it is about your love life, finances, family, friendship, or career, you should put God first, because when you do, these things will follow the way they should be. The first commandment is to "love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30)
- To love God is to worship and praise Him - It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only." (Luke 4:8)
- To love Him is to desire Him - to yearn for His righteousness, His Word, and His grace. Once we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good we want more of Him. You will be hungry for His word every single day. (Psalm 34:8)
- To love God is to obey Him- Jesus tells us, “If you love me you will obey what I command.”(John 14:15)
Please know that this is not a matter of merely following rules and registering good deeds. It is about having God’s love written indelibly on our hearts. When we love God, we will want to please Him and obey His commands eagerly.
Trusting God Is to Love Him
Trusting God is loving God because if we don't trust Him then obviously we are not loving Him. Loving Him may be difficult especially if we are in the midst of a tough situation, but that shouldn't hinder us from loving Him because remember, He first loved us and there is no reason for us to not love Him.
Obeying God's word is also loving God because if His words are in our hearts, then no matter how big the storm that will come into our lives, it will not be hard for us to still love Him because we are not just following Him, we let Him live in us.
Surrendering our all to God is showing our love for Him because, in this way, we are letting God move in our lives, we are giving Him room to fix everything that needs to be fixed in us, to resolve all the issues and to remove all the worries that we have.
Remember, we are all sinners and undeserving, but with God's love for us, He still chose to forgive our sins for our salvation. Even if sometimes we are turning our back on Him, He doesn't give up on us because He truly cares for us and doesn't want us to be lost in our journey. And when we are tempted to do something evil, He will make a way to get us out of it because again, He loves us.
God is unstoppable, if He chose to love us, nothing could ever stop Him from doing that, so let's give Him in return what He deserves.
