God is our strong Fortress

7th January, 2021 : Today's Manna from the Word of God

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble

My dear friends, we never expected the times we are experiencing from the last year with the deadly virus effecting every spheres of our lives. With the lockdown our lives were jolted and fear has gripped the hearts of young and old alike. People have lost their jobs and loved ones. Sudden shock have pushed people to take drastic steps like committing suicides, crime has increased due to lack of resources, people have become more intolerant and suspicious of each other.

Even though everything around seems entangled, God is Sovereign and He gives us assurance of His care and protection to those who trust in Him. Psalm 46:1 begins with the Truth:-

1. God is our refuge- When we see ourselves in trouble and danger, we can run to Him and take shelter under His wings as Proverbs 18:10 says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe". How can we come under His refuge and shelter? It is when we seek Him, we find Him for He forsakes none who calls on His name. My dear brothers and sisters I urge you to seek Him daily and come into His presence and spend time with Him. He will cover you under His wings where you will find rest for your souls.

2. God is our strength- When we are faced with sudden trials, hostility and stormy situations we are drained emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally. There are times when we are not even able to pray and talk with others and we are left shattered and broken. All over the world people suffer with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts with no one around them to support but God assures us that He strengthens us by filling with His joy. Isaiah 40:29 says, "He gives power to the faint, and to Him who has no might He increases strength". The following verse says that those who wait on Him shall renew their strength.

My dear ones please do not be discouraged but put your trust in Him for He is Faithful.

3. God is our ever present help- I am in love with Psalm 121 especially verse 2 where the Psalter says that my help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. What a profound statement he is making that his assistance is coming straight from The Creator God. He is above all and Almighty and remembering that we are His creation we can run, ask and look to Him for any help. He is our ever present help that gives us the assurance that He will never turn His back or ignore our plea for help.

As we hide in Him, He will strengthen and help us to overcome our fears in Christ Jesus who is the way, truth and life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6)

Lets us today question ourselves that where are we putting our trust and running to when situation hits at us hard? Are these sources reliable and if not where can we find our true hope?

We will know more about God's love, grace and mercies in Christ Jesus.

God bless you all.
