Something happens when you mention His Name

Bob Wilson, Gloria Van Cleve, and Kurt Carr wrote a powerful song that Carr sings. It is titled Something happens. This worship song is exclusively about the power of calling on the Name of Jesus. There are also versions by Bishop Paul S Morton and Benita Jones. The lyrics are as follows.

Jesus
Something special
Supernatural
About your name
Jesus
Something happens
When I mention your name

Demons have to flee when I say Jesus (Jesus)
Sickness has to heal when I say Jesus (Jesus)
Every knee shall bow before
And every tongue proclaim
With worthy praise
That matchless name of Jesus Jesus
Something special
Supernatural
About your name
Jesus
Something happens
When I mention your name

When I call upon Your name
The very atmosphere will have to change
We'll be transformed
We'll never be the same
By the power of Your Holy name

Jesus
Something happens

when we call your name
Jesus
Oh the power in your name

Jesus Jesus Jesus
Jesus Jesus Jesus
Something happens when I call You

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

The three versions of this song are all anointed and strongly bring His Presence into the atmosphere. They do also have some noticeable differences. As Bishop Morton sings he is crying out how much he loves the Lord and ends by saying "He felt that." meaning that he was feeling the Presence as he was singing. It is a powerful experience anytime believers open themselves to the fullness of the Creator. Benita Jones sings in such a manner that she has everyone around her shouting and expressing their joy in the Lord. Kurt Carr does something pretty special as he invites those in attendance to participate in an experiment of sorts. He says he is going to prove the power in the Name of Jesus and says on the count of 3 he wants everyone to shout out their own name. After this is done he points out that nothing happens. He then counts to 3 and has the audience shout out Jesus and clearly, they felt His presence based on the reactions.

The matchless Name of Jesus

I had my own experience recently that took me by surprise. I have listened to this song many times but a few days ago I was sitting on my bed with a few pillows behind me as Kurt Carr sang. When he asked the audience to shout Jesus, I lifted my hands and did the same. The power of the Lord struck me like an electric shock and I fell back across the pillows. I once attended a church where there was a lot of worship music and it was normal to feel an extreme regarding the power of the Holy Spirit. I have walked into my bedroom when my spouse is playing worship songs and felt the Presence. This was the first time I ever encountered the Lord this way outside of a corporate worship setting and I was delighted.

Power in His Name

If you don't feel anything when you call on His Name there are reasons why. The Name Jesus has been taken for granted in the world and in the church. People shout this Name when they are frustrated which is not giving Him glory. On television shows characters scream "Jesus Christ" not to worship Him but when they are angry as if His Name is a swear word. In R-rated movies, I have listened as someone yells out "Jesus, fuc$$ng Christ which is so disrespectful. Christians also misuse His Name this way then wonder why there is no power when they call on Him in prayer. The Bible gives an example in Acts chapter 19 we read beginning with verse 13.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. These young men did not know Jesus for themselves so calling on His Name produced no power and they actually were hurt.

Get to know Him for yourself

In Mark chapter 9 we read of a different outcome. A man who was not within the number of the 12 or perhaps the 70 disciples was working miracles in the Name of Jesus and here is what happened. 38 John said unto Him, Teacher we saw someone else driving out demons in Your Name and we tried to stop him because he does not accompany us. 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me. This man had personal faith and the power was with Him even though he's not officially one of the group that traveled with Christ. Likewise, your personal faith and desire to worship can bring in His Presence to you even when others who appear to be serving Him do not experience Him in the same way. This is why each person should know Him for themselves. If you have never called on the Name of Jesus and asked Him to be your Lord and Savior, then consider doing so now. Find out for yourself about the power in His Name.
