How to Stay Obedient to God During Tough Times

It is easy to follow and say we love someone if things are going well and if we are getting what we want because we are so happy on the inside. But what if things are not going our way and we are not getting what we want? Most of the time, if we see some things that are not going well, we tend to be anxious, grumpy, and hopeless, and forget that we are not alone in this fight. We sometimes are so stubborn when things are not going the way we want them to because we force things to happen, and we can't let go of the things that don't really matter and have no good for us, and lastly not God's will.

I know it is hard to be good when things are going bad because what we usually have in mind is to act bad too and we only act good if things are going well. I hope that this is what we shouldn't have in mind because God is our Father and will always discipline His children. If He sees us we being stubborn at something, He will make a way for us to be disciplined. Sometimes, God will remove things or people in our lives, not because He doesn't want us to be happy but because He only wants the best for us and He is just keeping us from harm. If God's way of disciplining us is making us feel unhappy because we are losing someone or something, we should never feel that, because God can see everything, especially our future. He knows the things ahead of us, and that's why before we experience the bad things in life, He removes some things in us and that is His way of protecting us well.

When we are being disciplined by God, we should never feel bad about it, in fact, we should be thanking Him for stopping things to happen or removing people in our lives that have no good to us. He is just protecting us and disciplining us. If we really love God, we don't base our love for him on just receiving the things we want to have, but the way He molds our character is such a very big blessing to be thankful for.

Things that we should be doing during tough times:

1. Be obedient to our God by trusting Him fully

2. Do not be stubborn

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you for wisdom

4. Never stop praying to God whatever the situation is

5. Always thank God for making you face trials as part of His ways to mold your character

Be Fearless

We are not in control of everything that's why we need to lean on someone who has it and that is our God. When the water rises in our lives, do we need to be afraid or should we ask God's help and be fearless? Sometimes, we are so scared when facing trials or big waves in our lives because we rely only on ourselves and not on our God. We always forget that there is God who is mightier than the rising water and He can even stop it in just one snap of His fingers, and that's how powerful He is.

When reading the bible becomes our daily habit, we will have something to cling to. That no matter how big the rising water is, we will never be afraid of it, instead, we are trusting God that He can calm it and take away our worries. That rising water will never be permanent, it is just temporary but the love of God for us will be forever. Let's choose the things that matter and will stay in us forever, so when temporary things scare us, try to recall a bible verse and say it out loud because sometimes it is more powerful than just thinking.

The word of God will live forever but the temporary things that try to scare us will only pass by, so there is no reason for us to get hooked on its trap because if we do, that's when we will be scared but if our minds and hearts are full of hope, faith, joy, and love, we will never be scared easily because we know that God is way bigger than the rising water in our lives.

Things that you can do when the rising water is trying to scare you:

1. Put on your headsets and listen to any worship songs

2. Get a notebook and a pen, and write down your hopeful thought to God

3. Stop worrying about anything and start praying about everything

4. Thank God for making you stronger every day

5. Read some of the bible verses and try to remember the one that struck you the most

Stop Worrying and Start Praying

Sometimes we only pray when we really need God the most, when we are happy because we just got what we want or only feel like doing it. I hope this shouldn't be the reason why we are praying. I hope that for whatever situation we are in, we pray because we love God and trust Him fully. We should not base our eagerness to pray only when we are happy.

When we worry it only makes the problem bigger. It is like putting or adding fuel to a fire and making it bigger and bigger. But when we pray, it makes the problem resolved. If we know that the problem is showing like rising water, we should be scared about it, but throw it with lots of prayers and faith in the Lord that it will be calm in no time. Sometimes worrying can make us anxious and hopeless because our minds will be filled with lies from the enemy and we will not be able to think straight about what to do. So instead of letting that happen, start praying with full trust in the Lord.

Let's not fear the rising water because Christ will go before us and He is in us.

Bible Verses

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

John 7:38-39

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now, this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Hebrew 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
