What Is Emotion?

Emotion is a feeling such as happiness, love, fear, anger, or hatred, which can be caused by the situation you are in, or the people you are with. This is also our response to the world around us, and it is created by the combination of our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Having emotion is a natural feeling because we are humans and no one could ever take that away from us. From the day we were born, emotion is already with us. A kid who cried and became sad because the balloon that she was holding accidentally flew away. A child who is being teased by his playmate got mad and cried. A person who would like to achieve a dream but lacks confidence becomes scared. There are so many examples of emotions and I know you know them all because we all experience them.

Emotions are can be positive or negative. But even if there are two kinds of emotions, I hope we always choose the positive emotions even in a good or bad situation. This can be easier said than done but with the grace of God, it is more possible than we thought.

Our Emotions

These are the following emotions that we experience everyday of our lives. They are inevitable because there are lots of things going on and there are times we meet different people and let them come into our circle.

  • Positive Emotions - These are the emotions that we should always have. These are happiness, gratitude, hope, joy, love, contentment, or compassion. These positive emotions obviously come from God, these are the emotions that God wants us to have in everyday even in our darkest hours.
  • Negative Emotions - These are the emotions that hinder us to enjoy the blessings from our God. These are also part of everyday life, but we should know how to avoid them. These are anger, hatred, jealousy, doubt, sadness, insecurity, resentment, and guilt. God doesn't want us to have these emotions while we are here on earth. He just simply wants us to live life with joy by having discipline in ourselves.

We can never be perfect children of God, but through His grace, He can mend our hearts in our brokenness and put the joy back as we all deserve to be happy and enjoy His blessings even in our hardships.

Remember, in pain, there is a blessing.

Rest in God's Presence

I know that once we follow what God wants for us, there are lots of things to sacrifice and leave behind especially if those things shouldn't be dwelled on nor entertained in the first place. Once we are in a difficult situation and we are trying our best to be okay, please know we are never being punished, it is how God is teaching us to live life in a very good way and not in a pitiful way. We can also say that God is asking us to stand firm in our faith in the middle of uncertainties and difficulties, by doing it we can persevere and those positive emotions will follow.

Choosing to be okay in a very difficult moment is hard. I know because I've been there, it was never easy. But even if we are running out of words caused by the situation, always remember that by having an honest heart while crying to God, He will know everything that you can no longer say in words. Remember, God knows what's in our hearts because they are connected to Him.

It may sound difficult thing to do, but through God's grace, He can give you rest, peace, and joy even in the most difficult situation. There may seem to be no way, but He can always make a way for us.

In our very challenging moments, it is okay to be angry, but don't let your anger lead you to something, such as: making a decision, choosing words when need to interact, and how you will react to people. Take time to breathe, let your emotion subside first, before you say a word to others, before you act and before you decide.

Remember, our emotions are just there and can be present anytime in us, but let us choose to live our lives by following God for having joy in our hearts no matter what.
