Grace That Is Greater By Pastor Oyetunji
What Is Grace?
Grace is the completing part of our inadequacies, imperfection & weaknesses that God bestows on us due to our relationship with Him that is humanly or naturally impossible to attain. This will then make us perfect (holy), adequate, strong and complete.
Introduction: Many people had a wrong notion that man cannot live a life above sins. God in His majesty and infinite mercy gave us a way out by freely-giving us Grace that will help us live above all our sins.
Why do we need Grace that is greater than all our sins?
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Isaiah 64:6 –
But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Ezek 18:20 (GW) The person who sins will die. A son will not be punished for his father's sins, and a father will not be punished for his son's sins. The righteousness of the righteous person will be his own, and the wickedness of the wicked person will be his own.
1John 3:8 (GW) The person who lives a sinful life belongs to the devil, because the devil has been committing sin since the beginning. The reason that the Son of God appeared was to destroy what the devil does.
2. What is the remedy or the way out in order to please God?:
God hates sin and everyone is a sinner; how can we be able to please God? In Luke 5:20-25;
"And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God."
This account shows us that Jesus (embodiment of Grace) has the power to forgive all our sins & He also needs us to have faith in Him;
"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"
The way out is to embrace Grace that can forgive all our sins. Let us not believe the devil that will be telling us that God will not forgive us, instead let us be going back to the works of Grace that is greater than all our sins.
Grace will forgive us as many times as possible, as far as we ask for it.
3. Does Grace give us license to sin?
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
The reason why the work of Grace is greater, amazing & extravagant is because despite the fact that it can forgive all our sins, it also do not give us license to sin.
But the work of grace knew that no man can fulfill the all the dictates of the law.
That is why no man can live righteously by the works of the law, but by relying solely on the provision of Grace.
Note that as good as the work of Grace is, we can frustrate, fail & fall from Grace; that is why we need to strive to be living a life of holiness & righteousness, instead of always falling into sin because we have Grace as a remedy. Gal 5:4, Gal 2:21
