God's Love. The Importantance of Allowing It To Shine Through You
One Light Makes A Difference
The electric in our community had gone out one evening. Other than the solar lights that lined my porch deck, the entire road was dark.
I had brought the solar lights in and placed them around my home. One light lit up almost the entire room.
I was amazed. Only a few days before had my daughters and I discussed how generic the solar lights must be because they let off very little light. I hadn't replaced the lights. These were the same lights, my children and I had once doubted.
Just like I had doubted the solar lights, I had also doubted the power of God's love and light that shines through me.
James 1:17 (KJV) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
God often works through His children to share not only the gospel, but his love, through their kind words, and good deeds. Acts of love and kindness are shared in various ways, whether it's a helping hand, a kind word, or a simple smile.
These considerate acts can yield the power of love and hope, allowing the light of Jesus Christ to influence someone else.
Now more than ever, we must submit to God's will not only letting his love transform us but illuminate through us.
It Can Be Discouraging
Sometimes our invite to church or a bible study is rejected. Perhaps our helping hand was followed by silence. Then, there are days when it seems like nothing we do is right.
On one occasion, I was driving down the road when a gentleman drove through the median and began screaming obscenities at me. I did not break any laws or do anything to cause him to act in such a manner. Thankfully, I responded with love. I cannot imagine the road rage that would have taken place if I would not have.
Hebrews 12:15 (KJV)
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.
God's children must guard their hearts and not permit the words and actions of others to influence them negatively.
John 15:12 KJV This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Be Not Transformed To The Patterns Of This World
There are many calamities taking place in our world today, from political turmoil to mass shootings. It is almost impossible to turn on a television, radio, or any internet device and not witness anger or hatred in some way.
Negative Influences that impart lasting impressions can also begin on the school playground or in your own home. If your actions reflect the negative ways of this world, you are walking in darkness.
Ecclesiastes 2:13 (KJV) I saw that wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness.
Yehuda Berg once said, "hurt people, hurt people." Anger and hatred can spread like wildfires. Believers must recognize hate, bitterness, or anger for what it is and not play into it. We must allow God to impart His nature into us so others will see His light and love.
Christ longs to work through his children to uproot these negative cycles with the power of his love.
The solar lights didn't appear bright, yet a single light lit up a dark room. Our kind words may seem small and even pointless, but in a world full of darkness, the love of Christ can shine bright through his children.
Acts 13:47 (KJV) For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
God's people must continue to walk in his love and His light. Leading one soul to Christ can help break the negative cycles and impact generations to come.
If you find yourself getting discouraged as I sometimes do, remember 2 Corinthians 12:9, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." I encourage you to pray and ask God to help you react in a manner that is pleasing to Him. Let Him be your strength.
Do you feel that your love is sometimes rejected?
