Be Happy With Your Job
Read Matthew 20:1-15 now
Many times I hear people speak about their jobs, saying that their job is terrible or their boss is terrible or that their wages are terrible. They complain, grumble and are ungrateful for what they have.
It is important to think about what you have. You have a job, something many people in this world do not have.
There are so many people who wish, hope and pray to have a job like yours and make the money you do.
How often do people go on strike for higher pay? When you applied for that job you knew what the wages would be, but now sudenly it isn't enough?
I know the cost of living goes up and sometimes our wages do not increase at the same rate. This is when we must adapt our budget accordingly. It isn't your employers responsibility to increase your wages so you can buy your toys or go on vacations or buy a bigger house, or even pay your bills...or whatever the case may be. I know this sounds harsh, but it is truth.
It is your employers responsibility to make sure your work place is safe and that you are paid on time and paid what you are owed, nothing more and nothing less.
Be happy with what you have. Be happy with your job. Never cut corners and never steal from your place of employment, do your best or even better than expected. Work as if you are working for the Lord, your place of employment is more than a job, it is more than a paycheque it is your place of ministry. You are there for a purpose.
Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Be happy with the job you have and use it as your place of ministry. Pray for all who are there and show your bosses and other employees that you know you are blessed to be there, this may bring them all to Christ.
Also be content with your pay. Don't look ungrateful, don't look greedy by going on strike but show that you are also blessed to have the paycheque that you have.
When you are ungrateful and your boss or co-workers know you are a Christian, what example are you setting?
Going on strike is no different than extortion, you are saying that you won't do your job unless they pay you more. Is that not extortion?
Be thankful for what you have.

14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”
Now all that being said, a employer should pay fair wages, that is why in this country we have a minimum wage law where an employer can not pay less than what is mandated by the government. We are not slaves but employees and in the Bible God says that even slaves should be treated fairly.
Colossians 4:1 Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
We must live as Jesus lived when He was on this earth as a man. He was a giver, not a taker. He was a servant and so too must we be givers and servants, putting others ahead of ourselves. We must work for our employer as if we are working directly for Jesus, because this is our calling and our ministry. Go above and beyond and see the changes in your employer and co-workers.
I worked for someone for 9 years, in those 9 years I never got a pay raise. I worked just as hard on my last day as I did my first day.
I would have loved a pay raise but I never got one. I assume he couldn't afford to give me a raise. I don't know and quite frankly it wasn't any of my business. His finances were none of my business. My business was to do the job I was hired to do. I was hired to do a job at an agreed upon wage. I kept my end of the agreement as did he and we both were happy. I was happy to have a job and he was happy with me and my work..
Be happy
Remember that there are hundreds of millions of people on earth who would love to have your job, your home, car...your life.
Stop complaining and be happy with what God has given you. yes God gave it to you, but you can lose it too and then what would you do, where would you be?
1 Thessalonians 5:13-18 13
And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
16 Rejoice evermore.
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
