Bible Study: Lost in the Darkness Part 4 of 4

I am a certified pastor and an active Christian of over 15 years, The Lord has made His voice know to me. I have heard and seen His angels.

How do I Share and Grow in Light?

Congratulations!

You've made quite a journey both in learning and in growth towards knowing God more intimately. Just know, your relationship and knowledge will keep growing as you study the Bible and learn to hear His voice more readily.

This is the final week of our four-week long study. Now that we know what wandering in the dark is like as well as what both darkness and light are, we can better recognize these states within ourselves and others. Just recognizing light and dark isn't enough. Sure, it is a great foundation through which God can reveal great and wonderful things. But two more things are equally as important. The first was covered in week three. We explored the provisions Jesus has given us for staying in the light. Even when we have gone astray, He searches us out and pulls us under the protection of His wing. This week we will discuss God's plan for sharing the light throughout the world, not just within our church circles.

This week we will discuss three topics according to His word. These topics revolve around God's plan for sharing the light:

  • The Power of Hope
  • The Power of Prayer
  • Spreading The Light

Remember to listen to that still, small voice. In today's day and age, the world is obsessed with expression. But what is expression if no one hears? Our father wants us to live with open hearts and open ears so that we can learn and hear His words.

It's time to pray. Let the silence envelop you and wash away all of those worries in the back of your mind. Pray a centering prayer that will focus your mind and heart.

The Power of Hope

Hope is a gift from God. It is what we hold on to in hard times. It's what keeps us going even though things seem impossible to bear. We've all gone through these times. These times of darkness. See, Satan wants to take us with him when the world comes to an end. As a result, he tries to take away our hope. The Bible is chock-full of hope. Let's take a look at what Romans and Proverbs have to say:

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

— Romans 15:13 (NLT)

In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.

— Proverbs 24:14 (NLT)

The Holy Spirit fills you up with hope. Hope brings joy. Isn't that interesting? Notice that all we must do to receive it is have faith. As you can see, Proverbs shows us that, hope is dependent on wisdom. So you could say that the knowledge of God brings you wisdom, wisdom brings hope, and hope results in joy. What a magnificent God!

Where Do We Find Wisdom?

The book of James tells us:

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”

— James 1:5 NLT

Pause

Let's pray:

In your own words, ask God to give you wisdom so that you may find joy in every moment.

The Power of Prayer

Speaking of prayer-

God created prayer as a way for us to communicate. We are able to ask The Lord things and He answers. The Lord reveals some wonderful things about prayer throughout His book. Prayer is one of the ways He communicates to us. To grow in faith and spread the light, one must be in constant communication with God. It's like practicing the piano. The more you play, the more you can hear and recognize each key. Studying God's word, meditating, and praying helps us become more familiar with His voice. The more we practice, the better we become at discerning His words.

Prayer is mentioned everywhere in The Bible. For now, let's focus on two particular verses:

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

— Luke 11:10 (NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

— Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

Spreading The Light

Now here's another amazing thing. God created us in His image. All of those who follow Him have been saved by Jesus through confession and proclamation of Jesus as our lord. By cleansing ourselves, we become a part of the light. We are children of The Lord. The light is part of our inheritance.

The Lord gave us this light to spread throughout the world. Everyone is called to do something specific. Maybe it's praying for others who have lost hope. Or it could be sharing the word of God through writing letters to soldiers overseas. There is an infinite number of ways God has called us to spread the light and expand His kingdom.

Read the following scripture and then pray about how God wants you to spread His light.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

— Matthew 5:14-15 (NKJV)

Not The End, But The Begining

This is not the end. This is the beginning of something beautiful between you and God. You are a bright light. Wherever you go, you snuff out the darkness. And to anyone whom you bring light, darkness will be cast out. For darkness cannot exist where light dwells.

Next steps:

1. Read The Bible. I recommend starting with the new testament (Matthew 1). If you don't have a Bible, you can look up this chapter online at biblegateway.com.

2. Pray. Make a habit of just talking to God wherever you are. Like talking to a friend, trust will build over time. He wishes to be close to us. After all, He did walk in the garden before the fall of man.

3. I recommend looking at the "Further Reading" section below to see what else God has in store.

Final Words

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:12
