In God We Trust

In 1956 "In God We Trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States of America. The phrase appears on the nation's money and government seal. In 2006 Florida officially designated "In God We Trust" as the state motto. "To trust" signifies unshakeable confidence in the strength, truth, reliability, or ability that someone or something has. According to the Holy Bible, trusting in God leads to divine direction. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV). Here is an examination of trust.

With All of Your Heart

The Bible instructs us to trust in the Lord (God) with all of our hearts. The term "heart" has two significant meanings.
All living creatures have a muscly body part (organ) which pumps blood through blood vessels called a circulatory system. Blood provides oxygen, nutrients, and assists in removing waste from the body. Trusting God with our hollow, muscular organ does indeed mean that we depend on Him to keep life-sustaining blood flowing through our systems. However, there is another fuller and more profound definition of "heart" that extends trusting in God to a higher plane.

A More Profound Meaning

The human heart is in between the right and left lungs. It is in the center of the chest. The heart is also the center of emotional and spiritual being. It is synonymous with compassion, understanding, and love. "Trusting in the Lord with all of our hearts," means placing all of our emotions in his capable hands. Going to God with everything shows that we acknowledge Him.

Acknowledge Him in All of Our Ways

To acknowledge means to accept that something is factual or real. It also proposes that the authority or importance of something or someone is fully recognized. Acknowledging God is to realize that He is the supreme authority in every aspect of our lives. The Bible instructs us to go to God every day, bringing everything before Him. By doing so, we recognize the fact that God has perfect wisdom. Acknowledging God in all of our ways prevents us from relying on ourselves. Relying on God, even in situations that we do not understand, leads us down perfect pathways.

He Will Direct Your Paths

A path denotes the direction of movement that a person or thing takes. In Proverbs 3:6, "He will direct your paths" indicates that God will make our journey through this life straight and upright. Traveling on the straight, honorable, and narrow paths of God lead to a reward that the human mind can not comprehend. That great gift is an eternal life of prosperity, peace, and love within the family of God, "...strait is the gate, and narrow is the way (path), which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" Matthew 7:14 (KJV).

The Reward of Walking God's Directed Paths

Walking paths directed by God leads to a pleasant and prosperous existence, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" 3John2 (KJV). Even during the bad times or when unfavorable things happen, the directed paths of God will make things bearable. On His road, God carries the brunt of our load. During bad times He causes everything to work out for us. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" Romans 8:28 (KJV). God's directed paths lead to an awe-inspiring reward.

A Nation on the Paths of God

A nation has its beginning with one person. When each individual puts their unshakeable confidence in the strength, truth, reliability, and ability of God, something profound occurs. Relying on God opens hearts and casts out fear. When you rely on God, you become well fortified and filled with overcoming power, and collectively, you become a strong nation. "The Lord is my strength and my song He has become my victory," Exodus 15:2 (NLT).

Through one individual at a time, the United States and any nation that will trust in God can be confident and truthful in saying, "In God We Trust."

I definitely concur with your assessment, Robert, especially concerning the USA having turned itself away from trusting in God. A Jew minister, Jonathan Cahn, delivered a January 9 or 10, 2020 YouTube message explaining just what you said about this nation and more. If you can find it I would suggest you listen to it.

After my nearly 3 years of "Gestating in the Spirit" as I was leaving my wife (Mat. 19:29) in August 1976 to obey his commandment I "Told God" to take control of every fiber of my being, including sex drive until He saw my need for it. It was Christmas night of 1977 that God had me in a position too satisfy my first sexual desire aNDI "Told God" what I had asked of him and he replied "you said 'until such time as I see fit' for me to have it and I indulged util he saw I no longer had the need. So I know the truth of unconditional trust. Also, just a few weeks ago I woke with a nose bleed that spilled about half a pint of blood and while it was still bleeding I said "you have always had my back so I'm not going to a doctor." just after saying it it stropped.

        Tanks for sharing it.
