Most of my poems are from what can best be described as my "Blue Period", aka "The Dark Year of the Restless Soul".

Write Out the Blues

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

All you gotta do

Is get out your tools

Write about life

And all its' funny schemes

All those fancy dreams

That never do come true

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a man

Just the other day

Face in his beer

Not a lot to say

Seems his lady left him

Just the other day

She found another lover

She had to go astray

Now he's sittin' solo

Drinkin' every day

Now he's sittin' lonely

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a woman

Just the other day

Drowin' in cheap vodka

Not a lot to say

Seems she lost her children

To an agency called Welfare

Couldn't keep them home at night

I guess she didn't care

They're in a foster home now

The courts have taken them away

She has another vodka

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a man

Just the other day

Smoking his last cigarette

Not a lot to say

Seems he lost a good job

The money went overseas

His kids are getting skinny

He's tired of saying "Please"

His wife is working part-time

Waiting tables every day

Smoking his last cigarette

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a woman

Just the other day

Doing a 'scrip of Valiums

Not a lot to say

Seems she's getting older

Her kids are grown and gone

Her best man left ten years ago

She sings a solo song

Can't seem to find real passion

Her lovers hold no thrill

She sits and dreams of days gone by

And grabs another pill

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a man

Just the other day

Just got out of prison

Not a lot to say

He and a one time buddy

Held up a liquor store

Ten good years have passed him by

He has his youth no more

He thinks his life is over now

Can't get a job these days

Might end up back in prison

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a lady

Just the other day

Sad and all alone now

Not a lot to say

Seems her man of fifty years

Up and passed away

Her children never visit

She's slipping every day

She prays to God each lonely night

Waiting on the day

Sad and all alone now

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

I met a man

Just the other day

Looking out the window

Not a lot to say

Seems his drinking lost him

A good woman and career

Seems like all it cost him

Were the things he held most dear

Now he sits at home alone

Solitary day by day

Looking out the window

Not a lot to say

It's not so hard

To write out the blues

All you gotta do

Is get out your tools

Write about life

And all its funny schemes

All those fancy dreams

That never do come true

It's really not that hard at all

To sit and write the blues
