Here we go again. In my quest to play catch up with my ever-growing creative writing list, I thought it was time to give the Sentence Challenge another go. The first time around, I threw the rules out of the window to offer an acrostic poem. I'm not sure why it didn't register with me at the time, but it is what it is. What I wrote was fairly decent and I knew I would keep this idea to try again.

This time around, I drew influence and inspiration from True Blood. I fell in love with the TV series when it first came out and several years later, found myself devouring Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels. Last summer during the Pandemic, HBO made all seven seasons available to view for free. While in the midst of reading the novels, I just had to compare notes. I found myself falling in love with Bon Temps all over again. I wrote down my favorite quotes from the show to use in my Instagram captions and decided they would be perfect for this challenge as well.

Without further ado, I offer you my attempt at redemption: not just one poem, but three. Thank you once again for this idea, John!

There's a fine line between feisty and delusional.

— Russell Edgington

There's something stewin'

A storm is brewin'

Fine, oh, she's damn fine, but always manages to find that dividing

Line — talking that big game, bring it baby, bring it. Somewhere

Between wild and

Feisty, she'll get under your skin,

And when it's over she'll leave you

Delusional and wanting. She always wins.

I am many things, but sweet ain't one of them.

— Tara Thornton

I don't know what else to say,

Am I making any sense?

Many times they said

Things need to change,

But I am who I am:

Sweet and spicy.

Ain't that a trip?

Of a kind. And if they can't accept that, then screw

..we heal, we move on, because pain is a worthless emotion.

— Pam Swynford De Beaufort

We danced under the crescent moon

Healing to the sound of Johnny Cash

We laughed in the sunshine

Moved by the shapes of carefree clouds, your hand resting gently

On mine.

Because friendship carried us through the

Pain, and from it all, grew something new. This

Isn't the end after all;

A spark, a chance to turn

Worthless into an

Emotion of value.
