The Reddest Rose
A Poem by Kelly W. Patterson
My sweetest desire yearns for you
Like an insect seeking a hot flame
So am I to your passionate kisses
A fragile fantasy tinged with danger
The reddest rose still lives within me
A flower languishing within my heart
The strongest breeze was always you
To which my soul eagerly surrendered
But the depth of that color is fading
Cold stormy skies replacing its warmth
A wind cries out amidst placid anguish
A deafening shout of mounting despair
Yet the scarlet fire stands firmly aloft
Holding off the frenetic gale for now
The exquisite love has not yet died out
And desire still shines just as bright
