Revelation - Majestic: Poetry Prompt Response

Alyssa is an avid reader, writer, and coffee enthusiast. She loves sharing thoughts, ideas, and creative writings with the world.

As everyone's favorite white rabbit famously said, "I'm late!"

About a month ago, Brenda Arledge started a weekly series of word prompts to help spark creativity. I've been so wrapped up in birthday preparations and distracted by the promise of spring that I just realized this wonderful resource existed.

Week four's word was Majestic. This sparks many ideas of grandeur: stunning landscapes, incredible animals, and even the universe itself. However, I often find myself veering off the railroad tracks when it comes to poetry. I like to twist ideas around and come up with things that are a little unexpected, digging deeper and exploring darker themes. That's exactly what I tried to do with the following poem.

Thank you for this inspiring series Brenda! I'm looking forward to jumping in more regularly and stretching my creative muscles.

They said my reward

was a set of golden gates

walk in the light

The Ultimate Test.

Fantastical stories

an all-encompassing love

a heavy price.

They said, "Sacrifice now

for the promise of ever after

the righteous path

is the only way."

But I heard my name

whispered in the shadows

saw the darkness staring back

through my reflection.

An irresistible pull

a sweet offering

the addictingly bitter taste

They said my reward

was the empyrean domain

but they couldn't see

it was already mine.

What an intriguing poem! Is heaven a place or is it within us? Your poem certainly makes us contemplate this question. You did a wonderful job with this challenge, Alyssa.

I am delighted to hear you are onboard with these writing prompts.

This poem is absolutely magnificent!

The pure beauty of the ending shows how truly majestic it is to know it is already yours.

I love your twist.
