A Poem about Women.

Mother

Agony of birth,
time of mirth,
born in meekness,
taken by darkness.

Slave to love,
the crimson dove,
abused by sexuality,
broken by maternity.

Cheated in wage,
ravaged by age,
abandoned by progeny,
devoured by misogyny.

Go 'round the bend,
alone in the end,
time to die,
and not know why.

About the Author

I was born in Melbourne Australia on March 4th, 1957. My mother worked in a pie van at Victoria market. My father drank. My brother, sister and I used to take time off school, go to the museum, botanical gardens or sneak into the zoo. When I was 9 we moved to a country town not far from the city. I enjoyed roaming around the paddocks. I didn't do well at school, my lack of concentration made studying difficult, I dropped out to pursue a career in retail. I managed an aquarium successfully. In 1985 I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, later with paranoid schizophrenia, with this came heavy cannabis use. I was in and out of hospitals for a long time. New medications have made me stable, I haven't been hospitalized since 2000. Psychosis radicalized my thinking, I realized I could make something out of the darkness. That was the beginning of my paranormal journey.

The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer

The Female Eunuch
The Female Eunuch

This book is a feminist analysis, written with a mixture of polemic and scholarly research. It was a key text for the feminist movement of the 1970s, broadly discussed and criticized by other feminists and the wider community, particularl;y through the authors high profile in the broadcast media. In sections titled "Soul", "Love" and "Hate" Greer examines historical definitions of women's perception of self and uses a premise of imposed limitations to critique modern consumer societies, female "normality" and masculine shaping of stereotypes quoting "the World has lost its soul and I my sex". In contrast with earlier feminist works Greer uses humour, boldness and course language to present a diverse and candid description of of female sexuality, much of this subject having remained undiscussed in English- speaking societies. The work bridged academia and the contemporary arts in presenting the targets of the final section of the book, Revolution, it is in accord, and often associated with a creative and revolutionary movement of the period.

Greer argues that men hate women, though the latter do not realise this and are taught to hate themselves. Greer argues that change had to come via revolution, not evolution. Women should get to know and accept their bodies, taste their own menstrual blood, and give up celibacy and monogamy.

" The freedom I pleaded for 20 years ago was freedom to be a person, with dignity, integrity, nobility, passion, pride that constitute personhood. Freedom to run, shout, talk loudly and sit with your knees apart. Freedom to know and love the earth and all that swims, lies and crawls upon it ... most of the women in the World are still afraid, still hungry and still mute and loaded with religion with all kinds of fetters, masked, muzzled, mutilated and beaten"

I read this book many years ago, it is an excellent book. It gave me a women's insight into the feminine mind, it gave me an understanding of the treatment of women and a hope that things would change. When I first saw Germaine Greer on TV I was intrigued, here was a women who did not follow the normal pattern. I always favoured women's liberation, Greer gave me a deeper insight into the problems facing women. Many women today owe her a debt of gratitude.
