Alyssa is an avid reader, writer, and coffee enthusiast. She loves sharing thoughts, ideas, and creative writings with the world.

When the mood strikes, I jot down the flowing thoughts, and then subsequently leave them in my notes app. Such was the case for the following poem. After a month of preparation and a brief getaway, I'm finally back into my routine. I found myself with a slot of time to devote to creative writing. My first step is to check the note, and I surprised myself with a few gems.

Week 55 was nothing. A wonderful, versatile prompt, and so, I present to you: A Tale.

As always, a big thank you to Brenda for the prompts!

Put it away

set it up on the shelf

to be forgotten,

covered in dust

and the faintest twinge of old memories...

what a surprise

to find myself

where I promised

I'd never return.

The look on their faces

almost makes this moment

worth it all;

the proverbial dessert,

a celebratory occasion.

But the taste of victory

never lasts

and quickly sours.

Why am I here;

a question echoing in my head.

I don't know myself.

All I see, reflected in their eyes:

pitchforks and torches

as they ran me out of town.

But that's not quite

how the tale went, now is it?

Oh no, because the truth is much colder,

a larger pill I never could swallow.
