Sometimes you set out with one idea and it turns into something completely different. I thought for sure I could get Sonder tackled and as the words flowed, it quickly became apparent that it wasn't going to resemble such a sentiment in any fashion.

Much like with Clouds, I have a start on Fear. But it is the same situation, where is it going? Is it even going to be a poem or will it become a short story? I don't have the answers yet. Lucky for me, I think this new piece fits perfectly with the prompt for week 32. So here we are.

Thank you for these prompts Brenda!

Enjoy.

Voices

Somewhere

anywhere

happiness will be found

just not here.

What's the opposite of Midas?

When everything you touch

rots, putrefies?

They need to create a word

to describe my affliction.

Perhaps it's my personality,

a rogue gene

meant to die

but refusing

stubbornly clinging

purposefully haunting me.

Maybe it's this town

charming to the outsider

its elders stuck in decades long-gone

a comfort that can't be sacrificed.

Stately homes and quaint shops

add to the illusion,

why am I

cursed with seeing the flicker,

knowing the truth?

I could stay

endure the stares

with a puff in my chest

but the whispers are too loud

crowding out my thoughts.

No.

Somewhere

anywhere

I have to escape

here.
