A brand new month, the promise of warmer weather, and a new poetry prompt. I'd say May is already starting out better than April. Congratulations (and a big thank you) to Brenda for a year of writing prompts. You may not be able to see me, but I'm raising my coffee mug in celebration: To another year!

The prompt this week is Adapt, and I think this is the quickest I've ever responded. Cue Steve Carell, "Personal best!" haha!

Here are a few lines I was inspired to write. I think this is a story we'll need to return to because the heroine has a dark secret no one will see coming.



Push and shove

they just keep swinging

hoping for the chance

to see her come undone.

We all have a breaking point;

they're hungry to see hers.

Small minds

Loud voices

throwing stones

anything to distract

from the seemingly inescapable misery

lying deep inside.

Entertainment is cheap

at someone else's expense...
