Sonder: Brenda Arledge Poetry Prompt Response 35
Well hello everyone. After a little hiatus, I'm back with more creative writing. I've been sitting on Brenda's prompts for a while and I figured it was time to get to work. Cold, grey November days are perfect for a little creativity, don't you think?
This is my response to sonder. As always, a big thank you to Brenda for these prompts.
Enjoy.
Twirling around
the stones and dirt
in my favorite button skirt
and oversized sweater
blonde hair dancing in the wind
the first sweet taste of hopeful love.
The crowd disappeared
in that hallway
as you held me in your arms
time stopped
when your lips brushed mine
you always remember your first.
Oh to be young
idealistic
full of dreams.
Rain pouring down
but that didn't stop you
from showing me
how you might've felt
if you were someone else
Recommended
two best friends
who could've fallen hard
an ancient story
not meant for us.
Tiny cracks
crumbled into deep canyons
but it was nothing
a sunny day and an out of the blue phone call
couldn't fix.
And I'd sell these pieces
to the lowest bidder
even give them away
because forgetting is a gift.
As much as I've tried
these memories won't fade.
They all rave about the silver lining
curiosity drawing them closer
feeding the obsession:
What lies behind that curtain?
But they all know
once they find out
everything changes
and there's no way back.
