It may still be July, but I'm already getting in the spirit of Halloween. I tried to incorporate a horror element into the prompt for week 19. I love the idea of a haunted mirror. I'm keeping that in my back pocket for another day. Below is my submission for Brenda's weekly prompt, Mirror. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Distorted

What does it say

when you no longer

recognize the eyes

staring back at you?

A distorted doppelgänger,

an imposter

on the other side of the glass.

I haven't felt like myself

in quite some time.

Which is true:

This physical world,

I can see and touch,

or the image reflected back?

There are three sides to every story,

here, only two.

But maybe there's a stranger in my heart

winking at me from the other side.

An interesting response to the word prompt, and I can relate to this one. That’s why, I don’t look at the mirror for long, than just a passing glance.

I enjoyed your poem, and your unique style.

Thank you for sharing.

Kind of creepy, but enjoyable. You certainly have a way with words, Alyssa. Everything you write is a wonderful read.

This poem is really eerie, Alyssa. You sure did a good job in creating a feeling of the mirror being haunted. If I look in the mirror long enough, it seems like I am looking at someone else and it's creepy. Maybe that's why I don't like to look in mirrors much, anymore! You did an excellent job with this prompt.

We often feel a distorted doppelgänger, an imposter staring back at us from the mirror. An unique response to Brenda's word prompt Alyssa. Good job.

Alyssa

That haunted mirror idea has peeked my interest already.

This one is great gal!

There are times I look in the mirror & wonder just who I am...where did I dissapear too?

It's a stranger.

I love it.

I'll post the link in the word prompt article.

Truth be told, anyone being honest with themselves can relate to this wonderful poem. Look deep inside and you just might find a stranger. How well do you want to know them???? Oooooooh!

What a great, unique response, Alyssa. You have a good imagination! A distorted image and a stranger winking at you from the other side is quite an image. Nicely done!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on July 24, 2021:

Your poem in response to Brenda's word prompt shows an active imagination. "A distorted doppelgänger, an imposter on the other side of the glass." Some days are like that! Ha!
