Below the Waves

A writing challenge

This poem is my response to a challenge from Ann Carr in her hub

below-the-waves

Shipwreck

What lies down beneath the waves?

What secrets do they hold?

The shipwrecks on their seabed graves

their stories to be told.

Myths and legends tell the tales

of monsters from the seas

that target vessels as they sail

along the oceans breeze.

pirates with their own folklore

who plundered at their leisure

Sent many a ship to the ocean floor

just to steal their treasure.

Some were sunk in battles fought

between conflicting nations

Some were sunk in storms caught

by nature’s own creation.

On sea beds all around our coasts

hidden down beneath the water

The souls of all those sailors lost

in Davey Jones’s locker.

Thank you Ann.I live beside the river and worked offshore in various countries for 25 years. So I have seen the sea in many different ways. From the storms of the north sea to watching whales swimming past in Africa

Well done, Charlie! I love this response to my challenge and thank you for taking it up. I'll add your link to my hub.

The sea provides so much inspiration, doesn't it? I live close to it so I see it's different slants nearly every day.

Stay safe and well!
