A Poem of Hope for Children

I saw a rainbow,

A rainbow in the sky.

A multitude of colours,

It hit my soul then died.

Now I'm forever looking

Across my endless world,

My song, I sing it softly,

Just trying to be heard.

Outside, I hear a minefield,

But in my mind are thoughts -

Pictures of another place

Where dreams are found and caught,

And as I kick the gravel,

I wonder, why not me?

But then I see the rainbow,

One day, I will be free.

I think that life's not equal

And that's just how it is.

At night I burn a candle

In my mind and make a wish.

I wish for my tomorrow

To bring sparkle to my days,

And when I see the rainbow

I know I'll find the way.

I wonder, when I'm older,

The person I might be -

A teacher, or a doctor,

People looking up to me.

Beyond the clouds, life's hidden -

I think that's for the best.

Dreams, they keep you going,

Reality, much less.

So here I am, just waiting,

My mind, I keep it strong.

A rainbow's end is magic,

Believing isn't wrong.

I hold the good inside me,

Forget about the rest,

The sky, it holds the answers,

But rainbows are the best.

This poem is dedicated to all the children throughout this world who face major difficulties in life and are holding on to hope.
