A Little Radiance in the Dark

Author:
a-little-radiance-in-the-dark

It is the end of twilight

When she sees a yellow flickering light

Little wings flying over tall grasses

As messenger of the unknown.

The sky grew darker gradually

And the flickering light changed to green

Giving a little radiance in the murkiness

That exhilarated everything around it.

The firefly gave her a sublime hope

Glinting in the darkness

To make her see the allure of the night

As it light up the dark sky.

The constant flickering made her realise

Not everything will always be bright

But in the duskiness of our lives

We should always search for the light.

Now she sees a hundred gleaming lights

In the new moon night

Little wings flying over tall grasses

As messengers of insight.

Flickering or bright,

It is important that we continue to see the light

And move on despite the darkness that surrounds us.

Loved the poem, Ankita B.

Thank you very much Pamela for your lovely comments which I really appreciate.

I too rarely see them now but it gives me great pleasure when I even see one.

I like the message of your lovely poem. Looking for the light is a wonderful message, especially when you just don't know which way to turn, Ankita.

I remember catching fireflies when I was a kid but you rarely see them anymore unless I just don't live in the right state since I grew up in Ohio.
