Your Family
Family in my opinion is what we make it Blood relatives, friends, work, colleagues, etc
Blood, they say is thicker than water
The only thing thick is the veil over your eyes
You watched me grow
Why don’t you know me?
Why don’t you see me suffocating?
Tears behind the pretty smiles
Screaming for help at the top of my voice
A stranger in “my own house”
Yet we sit down together at family dinners
Exchanging fake laughs and pleasantries
Tip-toeing on shattered glass
Constantly suppressing my thoughts and emotions
Afraid of your judging eyes if the veil is lifted
My family
The first people I am supposed to run to
My “safe haven”
Yet you won’t accept me for what I am
Your Family
