You, My Shyama. Tuesday's Inspiration 21, to the Esteemed Chitrangada Sharan. Happy Guru Purnima (Poornima)!

Manatita is an esteemed author living in London, UK. He writes spiritual books, flash fiction and esoteric poetry, his favourite genre.

Wisdom from the Master

"Our basic philosophy is love, devotion and surrender. We love God not in a human way but in a divine way. In human love there is constant demand. If I give you something, then I expect you to give me something; it is always give and take." - Sri Chinmoy

On Śyāmā, (Shyama)

Śyāmā, (Shyama), is a Sanskrit word with many meanings. It can apply to plants, animals and even rivers! King Kṛtavarman had a wife, Śyāmā, who was ‘like night to the sun … like the Śrī of the family incarnate; like wifely fidelity embodied; like the chief divinity of beauty, grace, and charm personified.’ (Source: internet).

It is said that ‘The Queen walked slowly, like a marālī, (Female swan). as if her mind were occupied with meditation on her husband.” Of course, this unwavering attention, steadfastness or devotion to an ideal, in this case Brahman (Allah, God), is very present in my poetry.

Shyama also refers to particular goddesses, one being Kalika (Mother Kali), protecting her devotees against evil forces. As I use the word, it refers to the God-man, The Divine Incarnation, or let’s just say, the personification of the Absolute Itself … the Supreme Being. I play on the feminine aspect of the Divine a little, for the purpose of embellishments. Happy Guru Poonima, Chitrangada Ji

Guru Purnima (Poornima)

Loosely speaking, all sacred festivals are festivals of Light. Light is synonymous with Love; with the beauty and grandeur of Brahman (The Absolute, Sat, Chit, Ananda).

Guru Purnima is a major traditional Indian festival, mostly, but not exclusively celebrated by Hindu's, in praise or adulation of the illumined souls (Satguru's). They, beginning with Shiva - some would say - have walked the earth, like Christ or Krishna, offering up themselves in unconditional Love, to serve and elevate mankind; to bring Light to the world.

Kalika (Mother Kali)

You, my Shyama

You are beautiful, more beautiful; most

Beautiful. Your smile is like the synergy of

Dawn and sunrise; magnificent, with a glow

That defies superlatives. Your long glistening

Hair, reminds me of a Mayan Empress … majestic,

Like pure white snow; yet You’re so much more!

Zephyrs cascade flowers, as I adorn Thy

Sacred feet with frankincense. Gathering

The scattered fragments of my Love, I’ve

Turned them into vessels of a thrill I once

Felt, deep and vast, like the ocean’s bed.

Some fight over the value of glittering gold,

Others prefer to wait at nights, seeking the

Illustrious shine of moonlight. Yet You’re always with

Me; I just need to savour, the sweet wine of Thy lips.

All else is meaningless to me; not seeing Thy cute

Gaze, only fills me with agony. My pain mimics

Unrequited love –troublesome; full of wails and

Emptiness. I sing on starry nights as Orion glows, my

Soul soars on shafts of Light, cradling the flute of minstrels.

The gardener tills the soil, knowing that without

Rain, crops will not be harvested. You’re my sun and

Diamond rain, O Lover; I know, like an unripe mango, that

When I become mature, You’ll show Thy face. Only

When mother’s ready, will I drink bosomed milk. Only with

You inside my Heart, will I see the majesty, of shooting stars.

Come, my Sweet Shyama, pour into my soul,

The sweet bewilderment of Thy golden Silence.

- Manatita, The Lantern Carrier. 19th, July, 2021.

Wisdom from the Master

"Wherever you go, go with inspiration and aspiration. Whatever you do, do with love and concern. Whomever you see, see with purity's beauty And responsibility's glory." - Sri Chinmoy

"Spirituality is not an escape from the world of reality. Spirituality tells us what the true reality is and how we can discover it here on earth. Spirituality is not the denial of life, but the purest acceptance of life...life is to be realised soulfully. Life is to be transformed totally. Life is to be lived eternally. Spirituality is not the song of ignorance. - Sri Chinmoy

"Spirituality is the acceptance of life, for the transformation of life and the manifestation of God's Truth here on earth, at God's choice hour and in God's own way." - Sri Chinmoy

Spend 3 mins with this soul-stirring meditation when you can.

Relating to God.

This is a great tribute to Chitrangada, a beautiful soul here on HP. I wish I know more about Indian symbols but Light is one that truly captures her spirit.

manatita44 (author) from london on July 20, 2021:

My dear Habibi, You're here?

Feeling better? Victory to Allah! Hajj Mubarak!

On the one hand, one devotion, The Hajj, points to purity and wholeness and the other, Guru Purnima, to adoration, Gratitude, worship. Yet they merge. Once you see things as clear as your Bhaia Ji, then all is well. Ha-ha. We are all sparks on the sitar of life, but we are the sitar ... we are the Life. Gratitude

Aww Peggy, Ella Wheeler Wilcox would love the many windows in your beautiful Heart. May the Christ continue to shine in you and may you and dear ones be your usual happy selves. More peace to you!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on July 20, 2021:

Thanks for explaining the meaning of Shyama with this beautiful dedication to our sweet Chitrangada here on HubPages. She blesses us with her words and always her beautiful flowers. Your words are always a blessing. Enjoy your festivals!

manatita44 (author) from london on July 20, 2021:

Thanks my Didi ji.

I always say that Indian life cannot be separated from Religion ... from the Vedas. Everything is interconnected and you are right about the Guru culture, of course. We mystics make it succinct, sometimes, we just try to capture the essence.

Again, I believe Vanita wanted to write a piece on Guru Purnima, so mine just covers Light and Love - the core of all things.

Someone asked me about Shyama recently. This word is a favourite of mines, but she said she had to look it up. So again, just a loose addition here. Glad you liked it!

You've been with us a long time and so I wanted to honour you in the light of the great festivities taking place. They won't light as many diyas as Depawali, but the Spirit of Light is carried in the joy of what humans feel and as such elevate humans. So beautiful!

We will celebrate at my Centre tomorrow, perhaps and a little later do Puja and Satsang at the Patanjali Yoga Centre. We are more Satguru orientated, so you have an advantage on us. Ha-ha.

Lovely to see you as always, my dear Friend.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on July 20, 2021:

Bro, This is an amazing tribute to Chitra di. As always, I greatly enjoyed your poetry as well as Sri Chinmoy's beautiful words. Chitra di is a very kind and beautiful soul.

Happy Guru Purnima!

Sending lots of blessings and love to both of you

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on July 20, 2021:

Gratitude Manatita, Gratitude!

What can I say! This is a pleasant surprise. I feel humbled to read your divine poem, and feel blessed that you chose the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima for this wonderful dedication.

Guru Purnima is celebrated to express our gratitude to our Gurus. Whoever imparts knowledge or ‘gyana’, or teaches us anything or something, is considered as our ‘Guru’, our parents of course, being the first Guru.

You have beautifully described the essence of the term, Shyama, a word associated with Gods and Goddesses. According to Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu has been described as having the divine dark blue/ black colour of the clouds, which encompasses the whole universe.

With love and devotion, the supreme is attainable.

Loved your devotional and metaphysical poem, the quotes and the video. Many thanks to you and the fellow writers for the kind words. I feel blessed.

May God bless everyone.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on July 20, 2021:

Another of my old friends on HP, so deserving of such a beautiful tribute. I hope Chitrangada Sharan knows how much she is appreciated by those of us who call her a friend. Blessings to you both!

Rosina, Gratitude, mi Habibi. Eid Mubarak! Hajj Mubarak!

Guru ji teaches that when anyone reads his writings intently ... earnestly, he is made aware and helps the soul.

Your sentiment is heart-warming and loving. Your kind mention of Chitrangada Ji is noted and I'm grateful for your valued contribution. Jazak Allahu Khairan.

Rosina S Khan on July 20, 2021:

A wonderful tribute to a well-deserving fellow writer, Chitrangada indeed! I loved your poetry and Sri Chinmoy's quotes thoroughly. A remarkable contribution, Manatita.

manatita44 (author) from london on July 20, 2021:

What a loving statement and positive inspiration for Chitrangada!

Thank you so much for the kind words and poetic sentiments. More Higher blessings to you.

A divine dedication indeed! Much Love, my Brother.
