You Are a Star-Shine Bright

Nithya Venkat enjoys writing about nature and different aspects of life in the form of poetic verses.

Shine Bright

Shine Bright

Brenda Arledge is a dear friend, a talented poet who inspires us to write with her word prompts. You can read her wonderful poems here on HubPages.

She shares a single-word prompt every week to encourage others to write a poem, a short story, a song, or any combination. The main requirement, she says, is to relax and have fun.

This poem is written for the word prompt “stars” given in "Word Prompts Help Creativity - Week 28."

Thank you, Brenda, for inspiring me to write.

Shine bright, you can be a star in the stage of life. You have to believe in yourself, have courage, have faith. You have to realize the potential within you and set it free to shine bright like the star that you are.

You are a star-Shine bright

You can be a star

Believe in yourself

Hiding within you

Is a bright light

Waiting to be set free

To shine bright

To be the best

To excel

In the stage of life

You are a star

There is no stopping you

No one can and will

Once you decide

To shine bright

Only you

Only you alone can

Reach deep inside

And set free the light within you

A light, waiting to shine

Waiting to come out of the dark

And show this world

Who you really are

Believe in yourself

Believe that you can

And you will

Shine bright like a star

The star that you are

Mother-I Wish Upon a Star

Mother-I Wish Upon a Star

I Wish Upon a Star

"I Wish Upon a Star" is another poem for the word prompt "star" shared by Brend Arledge.

I wish upon a star

To always hear

A lullaby

A sweet voice

Singing me to sleep

As the moon floats by

A branch gently taps on the windowpane

As if to keep the rhythm

With every beat of my heart

To keep me awake

To listen to her sweet voice

The moon gazes

Stopping by my window

The wind ceases to blow

Not making a sound

Eager to listen to the sweet melody

Gently rocking me to sleep

The night owl desists to hoot

Hoping to catch some winks

In-between the gentle highs and lows

My eyelids droop with sleep

Listening to her sweet voice

My angel

My star

My mother

I wish upon a star

To hear your voice

Forever in my heart

Gently rocking me

Vellur, I'm tempted to say that both your poems are delicate, soft, tender, soothing, but then I remember that these are some of the qualities of the moon and stars. Of course Light is dominant and I loved them both as a child. A most wonderful effort and welcome back. Are you well?

Janis Leslie Evans from Washington, DC on September 05, 2021:

Vellur, these are beautiful, especially the second one. The lullaby from the child’s perspective was heartwarming and poignant. The first one is so encouraging. Nice work!

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on September 05, 2021:

Nithya

These are great poems.

Your poem, "You are a star-Shine bright" tells us there is a light shining inside of all of us.

When we choose to have faith in ourselves and believe, this light shines bright.

We are all stars & we need to let our light shine. We can be what we are meant to be.

Your poem, "I Wish Upon a Star" is absolutely amazing!

It tells us about making a wish upon a star to always hear a lullaby as he drifts off to sleep.

He yearns to hear the soothing melody of his Mother's peaceful voice rocking him to sleep each night.

You capture the perfect setting with the moon shining in the window, the wind not howling, the owl stops hooting, as you rock with the rhythm of her song.

You fight sleep with those eyelids drooping just to keep hearing this sweet melody.

What a blessing it would be to capture our mother's voice to rock us to sleep each night.

A perfect little poem.

I'll post a link in the word prompt article.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on September 05, 2021:

I think every child, growing up, should be required to read this poem. They are all stars, but many do not believe it to be possible, and that is a sad reality. Well done, my friend.
