World, Beware of Truth!: A Satirical Poem

Val enjoys writing rhymed poetry with a valuable message in it.

History is a set of lies agreed upon.

-- Napoleon Bonaparte

Some famous slave runners got their statues erected

and butchers of victorious battles got their due fame

but for telling their ugly truth you won't be respected

what's swept under rug shouldn't smear a big name.

Take Thomas Jefferson, "forefather" so great

with six hundred slaves making his life a breeze

all the way to Trump, and his version of Watergate

while still at large and manipulating followers with ease.

Talk about politicians unable to put sentence right

repeating and paraphrasing everything they say

and it's like a blasphemy of a deity at height

so you can kiss your popularity away.

Touch any religious taboo or naive story

and you bring on yourself wrath of believers

so don't try questioning matters wrapped in glory

illogical or not, but don't bring into picture deceivers.

Human weaknesses and a laziness of mind

that's another subject not received very well

say any of it, and you are turning out unkind

though many may think of it -- but few will tell.

In this world thriving on high octane lies

truth is something uncomfortable to avoid

just try to blend well playing stupid, not wise

as being different is making so many paranoid.

If you happen to be ambitious online writer

write about the stuff that everyone may yap

as for heavy subjects you need to be bullfighter

not fighting any bullies, but dealing with their crap.

Between any two laughs I watch this grand charade

with no one really caring what others have to say

as long as there are those easy to persuade

world will keep turning in predictable way.
