Winter's Soul

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

winters-soul

Winter creates a silence paying homage to its beauty

Creating swirls of delicate snowflakes which gently dust

The naked branches of countless trees who whisper their gratitude

In celebration of a season where the stars rekindle their fires

Complimenting the bright fullness of a winter moon

Winter moments linger as they are gathered up and stored

Within the pleasure of walking on virgin snow

Where a wintery breath clouds the stillness of the air

As falling flakes fill the footprints of conversations

Suspended in the chilly air of perseverance

Winter is the joy of imagination where you say goodnight

In one world waking to the majesty of a surreal landscape

Where the simplicity of creation at its very best nestles

In the quiet white of cold oblivion and the earth

Conspires with Mother Nature to rest and regenerate

Winter is the fireside of warmth and joy

Where memories are revisited in the shades of twilight

And love is served in festive mugs of rich hot chocolate

As we gather round the old piano where our voices

Create a sense of peace which is incomparable

This was lovely to read. It made me remember going to sleep and awakening after a night of snow into what appeared as a winter wonderland. It is beautiful when that happens! Everything looks so clean and pristine.

This is a beautiful poem capturing the stark beauty and paradoxically warmth of winter, Lorna. Some of my favorite times in life are based around this season when I first learned to ice skate, go sledding down a hill with my sisters, and a white Christmas with hanging icicles and the magic of the lights against the snow filled branches- a sight that has to be one of the most magical times in my life- and drinking hot chocolate with loved ones near! You did a marvelous job at capturing the enchantment of winter with your touching verse! Thanks for sharing.
