Why Can't We Love Each Other? Poem

Audrey's desire to help others respect and understand human behavior led her to study psychology at UCLA.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ― Rumi

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ― Rumi

“We are not here to judge each other but to Love One Another.”

― Wald Wassermann

Thank You Daddy

My father knew the secret to happiness; to love others. He was a constant example to me of unconditional love.

Expressing love or compassion for others benefits the recipient of affection and the person who delivers it. As echoed in Mother Teresa's famous quote, "It is more important to do small things with great love than do great things with little love."

Why Can't We Love Each Other?

why-cant-we-love-each-other-poem

Why can't we love each other

It's not that hard to do

In fact, it is our natural state

It lives inside of you.

Why can't we love each other

It's easier than hate

Make it a priority

Before it gets too late.

Why can't we love each other

Forgive and let it go

The past is gone forever

Live for now and grow.

Why can't we love each other

Stop violence and killing

Find good within your fellowman

You can if you are willing.

Why can't we love each other

Spread harmony and joy

Teach your children how to love

Every girl and boy.

Why can't we love each other

It's our choice to make

Let's form a link of friendship

And every hand we'll take.

Why can't we love each other

We've all been shown the way

Let's make love a habit

And show our love each day.

Each and Every One of You

With all my heart.

With all my heart.

“Love does not dominate; it cultivates.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Audrey

It sounds so simple, yet we often let it slip away.

We must put the past behind us & reach out with love.

Just maybe if we did that, the world would be a bit better.

It is easier to love than to hate and much healthier. Thank you.

Genna East from Massachusetts, USA on July 04, 2021:

I do so love this poem...

"And show our love each day...." So true! We can do this in little ways each and every day.

Thank you, Audrey! :-)

This amazing poem conveys a beautiful message of Love. Audrey, I don't have enough words to express my gratitude.

Sending many Blessings and Love

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on July 03, 2021:

What a sweet message. {{Sigh}}, why CAN'T we just love one another? Perhaps before we can love others, we need to love ourselves. The events of the past year have brought so much isolation, loss, and sadness. Because of failures (real or perceived) there is much self-loathing and feelings of worthlessness. We need to heal ourselves before we can reach out to others.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on July 03, 2021:

To truly love, it seems to me, we must be willing to be vulnerable. Therein lies the problem for so many people...the fear of being judged or hurt or both. I'm with you in the sentiment of this; I just wonder if it is possible, on a large scale, for love to conquer all.

love,

bill

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on July 03, 2021:

That quote by Mother Teresa is a beauty, as is your poem and message. It reminds me of the song lyrics: "What the world needs now, is love, sweet love..." We surely need that in this day and time!

FlourishAnyway from USA on July 03, 2021:

People are very broken and let that brokenness divide them instead of trying to find common ground and healing with others for a better future. I never imagined we would be in such a state as we are right now. Your poem is lovely in its simplicity.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on July 03, 2021:

We live in a time of division and violence, so your poem is perfect. I really loved this poem as the message could not be more timely, Audrey.

You should write poetry more often as this is a very well-written poem.

Much love to you.

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on July 03, 2021:

Audrey this is a beautiful poem with a great message. The title says it all. A way of life and not many will understand that.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on July 03, 2021:

Thank you for sharing this beautifully expressed poem.

Hi Audrey,

This was a beautiful poem with wonderful heartfelt messages. I am happy I found you again years later on HubPages.

You were one of my favorites with your photo I.D. of a beautiful lady hugging a tree. I always loved that photo.

I hope you are well and happy.

Love,

Bobbi Purvis
