Where All the Broken Pieces Go

Born and raised in Kentucky, I love writing, telling and listening to stories. Most of my works are inspired by real experiences.

The place inhabited by thoughts, dreams and feelings

Dark, cold and tangled with emotions deeply concealed

Superficially light, bright and free spirited to the outside world

Hidden behind eyes that know how to lie

Suppressing sadness and anguish that no one may see

Releasing love and laughter that no one may know

The secret hiding place

Where all the broken pieces go

Solitude and stillness allow the pain to become known

Constricting the heart and condemning breaths to come freely

Only allowing tears when the world is unconscious to this existence

All the pent up broken pieces come flooding through

Building and growing stronger, uncontrollable sadness in streams down the face

Concealed too long to be quieted quickly

Under cover of darkness and exclusive for as long as is needed

Contenting the heart for an ephemeral respite from pain

Returning to the hiding place

Where all the broken pieces go

Whispering words interpreted through thoughts

Remain strong in the eyes of those around, they won’t understand

Don’t show weakness, they rely on you for their strength

You aren’t betrayed by the heartbreak others feel

They look to you to keep it together because they can’t

In silent acquiescence this place is held in reserve

This place exclusive to each

Where all the broken pieces go

Delilah---After reading this poem I got this spontaneous wish to be transported to the author's hiding place where all broken pieces go, and maybe the two of us, on our knees might pick up some of those pieces and go playful like two kids rearranging them into a happy mosaic.

A mentor of mine once told me the most dangerous real estate in the world is the six inches between my ears. I think he was absolutely correct.
