When Things Go Bump

Thump! Thump! Thump!

The silence of the night is broken.

One eye open, thoughts of getting up,

Pitter-patter! Pitter-patter!

Never mind it’s just your cat.

Nothing is the matter.

Jump! Jump! Jump!

Bang! A crash awakes you.

Down the hall it echoes.

Get up! Get up! Get up!

Eyes wide open on your feet,

The noise is now your pup.

Silent nights are few and far,

Companions see to this,

As creatures prowl at night,

Fur babies guard your house,

They may nap throughout the day.

At night they’ll catch a mouse.

Never fear a thing my dear,

Ruff-Ruff, meow-meow,

When things go bump,

Outside howling wind,

Keep your calm about you.

And thank your furry friends.

Thank you, Jodah. My fur babies are great company. I would be very lonely without them.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on January 19, 2019:

Good one Diana. I have six cats and two dogs so I can relate to things going bump in the night. For the most part, my furry friends have been trained to sleep at night but I think they always have one eye open because if anything strange may move or make an appearance they seem to be on it straight away.
