When Some Just Need You for Their Bragging: A Satirical Poem

Val enjoys writing rhymed poetry with a valuable message in it.

If you want people to speak well of you, do not speak well of yourself.

-- Blaise Pascal

When people need you just for their bragging

always hardly caring to ask you how you are

time spent with them is nothing but dragging

then you just can't go wrong by staying afar.

Measuring personal value by their possessions

they maintain illusion of having upper hand

thriving on producing shiny impressions

about their life style being so grand.

Maybe it's also envy that they want to evoke

who knows what other silly ideas they create

perhaps they think of you as poor and broke

for thought of your being equal they just hate.

Competitive like hell but deep down so insecure

they feed their inadequacies on a cheap boast

in a relative abundance -- but in spirit so poor

constant flow of praises they need the most.

They mistake passing excitement for genuine joy

with life oscillating between emotional extremes

as long as they can buy another expensive toy

it's a pacifier for those many broken dreams.

I have had a few in my life's collection of the nut cases

always a rare joy stepping out of their gravity field

and now they are just some gone familiar faces

a part of the process of life getting healed.
