What is in a rose?

What is in a rose that it smells so sweet

Maybe the essence of its soul

The vibrant color, the heady fragrance

Dear roses

How can you be

So generous, so kind

Ready to celebrate

With anyone who touches

Their soft petals,

Admires and then plucks

Forever uprooted from home

Lost but still rising to celebrate

Life as it may be

Even though surrounded by thorns

Never deliberately hurting

Roses soothe my soul

Gently uplifts my spirit

Whatever the occasion, maybe

Joyous or sad

Roses are there for me

I can count on them

To be by my side

Roses plucked from home

Lost alone among a crowd

Seeking to adorn a mantle

Or a table by the windowsill

Gentle fragrance greets whoever enters

Celebrating moments of life

To be marked by sweet roses

Even though uprooted from home

Searching for their lost souls

Still, they never fail to delight

Until their very last breath

Till the last petal falls
