What Makes You a Grouch: A Poem

Val is a life-long practically oriented student of effective emotional and attitudinal responses to the many challenges of life.

When you can't hardly wait for chance to oppose

with arsenal ready to spill verbal poison around

or every poem sounds like a boring prose

you need to get back on the ground

---for you are a grouch.

When everyone around you is having fun

and you try to spoil it any way you can

seeing only clouds, ignoring the sun

no wonder no one is your fan

----because you are a grouch.

When you keep complaining while others cheer

seeing something wrong with babies and saints

or complicate matters that are simple and clear

portraying the world around only in dark paints

----you must be a grouch.

When excitement is high on the dancing floor

and you just hang around, yawn and slouch

I have got to say now what I missed before

make an appointment for a shrink's couch

----for you are a grouch

Dana---Come on, I don't think I was describing you. Look, you are presenting yourself with a white rose, not with crossed swords. But, thank you for the witty comment.

Funny, I didn't realize I was a grouch until I read your poem. Thanks friend.
