What Joey Sees
My name is Jamie Lee Hamann and I started writing poetry on Hubpages back in 2013. Every year I share a poem a day in April.
What Joey Sees
What does it mean when you hold your head to the ground?
what sights do dogs see with their nostrils?
The direction of dogs from place to place?
To smell what we can't see around the fringe.
They push the smells on through a muzzle
as a swarm of gnats and bees sting their haunches
as if spring's green can be seen through their noses.
A break from the day to smell the breeze.
Making sense of our worlds from tall to small.
Strong smells that make you take pause.
Your tongue out, it moves as you are moved.
A few hours outside then directly inside.
Then onto my couch, you too, to get comfortable
only, get up to check the cats, their food bowls,
then cook a meal, to touch their hearts with the smell.
