What Is It Good For?
I have a memory stuck in my mind
It’s not the trash I didn’t take out
It’s drowning
Begging to be saved
Gasping for air between every shout
But I won’t reach for its begging hand
There is nothing there for me now
It will never sink
Only cry eternal
I can’t save what love won’t allow
Don’t bother me anymore
Don’t ask me why or how
A memory, what is it good for
Leave me to my new life
There’s nothing left for me now
I don’t feel as if I am lost
No, I know exactly where I am
Freedom is without and within
Without the past
But within my grasp
Don’t bother me anymore
Don’t ask me why or how
A memory, what is it good for
Leave me to my new life
There’s nothing left for me now

Thank you Rinita. A long-time friend of mine also pointed out that line. I suppose it's just about gaining control of our emotions and knowing we have the ability to make things new again. Easier said than done.

"Freedom is without and within
Without the past
But within my grasp"
This summarizes the essence of the poem. Good one!
