What I Don't Say
Maybe I shouldn't say so much
Be the silent type who always survives
There's something honorable about it
But there's always something I don't confide
I don't like to be too hot or cold
But who does? Not anybody I know
How do we do something about it
If we don't talk first about which way to go
Let me tell you how I feel
I don't want to be the complainer
But those who quietly go along tolerate
The injustices and words of a campaigner
All at once it can be my mind inside yours
But is it too much to know what I feel?
I'm used to myself but you have no idea
What I hold back when you think I don't is too real
I'm old enough to understand what I'm trying to do
I want to be a free man who is not afraid to speak
But I don't want to hurt the people who love me
They'll be blamed if I can't turn the other cheek
Let me tell you how I feel
I don't want to be the complainer
But those who quietly go along tolerate
The injustices and words of a campaigner
