Caught in the headlights of an oncoming semi

Foot stuck tightly in the smallest street grate

One tailor-made to swallow high heel shoes

Feet just locked in a stagnant position without a chance

A high wire act completely frozen in fright

Afraid to fall off the razor thin edge

Unable to make a firm decision on anything important

For fear of offending those closest and furthest

Forced to make hard to swallow choices

Causing some nervous pangs of heartburn

A form of abstract stress and terror of alienation

By the ringmasters of the familial circus

Bosses who never listen to anything you have to say

All they hear is white noise followed by demented butterflies

Making a grand entrance and an even grander exist

Told to make friends with the other circus acts

Developing some sense of belonging with a group

Without sticking out too much like a blisteringly sore thumb

Surprised by the sudden turnabout when happiness is close

Been warned to spurn the in crowd when they don't pass the test

Questioning past and present decisions at great length

Adding more sleepless clock staring nights to the equation

Rolling around from the right side to the left side of the bed

Doesn't help matters much either, especially when dealing with loneliness

Can't keep warm with your arms wrapped around a spare pillow

That never get used by anyone other than you

Every few weeks or so to feel something more than the usual

Hard to trust meeting new people for any social occasion

Without looking or sounding like a celebrity stalker

Not being creepy or anything just overly excited someone was interested

No following around like a lost puppy or cat

Avoiding violating the 500 feet restraining order imposed on them

Working hard to get off this miserable merry go round

Made from nightmares and very twisted individuals

Tougher than many would think to exit

It's a gradual process that will likely come into effect tomorrow

Or the next day hopefully

Only time will tell.

Here comes the semi! Run for cover.
