Wars We Have Known
Our country, at its beginning, was when we had a revolution,
War came as those who would dictate was a gross intrusion.
Our independence, what we sought, no rule by a sovereignty,
Everyone here stood and fought, against this unfair authority.
The Civil War, much uncivil, about bickering by all the wealthy,
North and South never could agree, to be won by the stealthy.
People of Color captured and enslaved by an outside invader,
The North took upon itself a task in being each one's crusader.
When was next, the Spanish-American war originated,
as many Cubans, all fought hard to be free from Spain.
Teddy Roosevelt leading the charge at San Juan Hill,
Then Cuba was freed, while we remembered the Maine.
In World War I, we did fight, to win, in defeating our foes,
Militarism and the greed for land, among its worst woes.
An assassination, desire for wealth all about this world,
Europe and this allied country, all into war were hurled.
Then came the greatest and most terrible, World War II,
Germany and Japan meant to rule the globe, tried to do.
Attacks provoked our entry then, the loss of so many too,
Our grit and determination a success for hearts were true.
The Korean War caused by aggression, thus we did so halt,
Was a demarcation line made after, it took a big dose of salt.
Never an official ending so had, seems to go on until this day,
Acts of terror and rockets launched antagonizes in every way.
Vietnam arose in the Sixties, a source of much consternation,
The North kept attacking southern realms, an all-out invasion.
Innocents were all captured and killed, we came to their rescue,
Showed the world we will not tolerate, what the aggressor to do.
As a part of the UN coalition, we entered Somalia in ninety-three,
Giving a hand to a ravaged land, we helped the people to be free.
The fight still goes on over there, and we try to do all that we can,
We will never give in and let them down, for this all do understand.
We remember Afghanistan in the Middle East, our help so behoved,
A terrible dictator was taken down and another later was removed.
The gas-chemical use to be carried on we could not allow to prevail,
We sent our best and passed the test, all did do their jobs very well.
We are still over there in the Middle East, requires our best instruction,
Evil factions, the dreadful gangs, cause so much death and destruction.
United Nations all to give a hand, knowing that it's the right thing to do,
We will always be there because we care, the red, white, and the blue.
