Two Ways to Count to Ten
My name is Jamie Lee Hamann and I started sharing poetry articles back in 2013. Every year I share a poem a day in April.
Two Ways to Count to Ten
Queen leopard decided one day
the time had come to wed her son
and train new Queen in her role play
but how would she find the right one?
Any animal with the lung
can count to ten while spears in air
Though Elephant arrived high-strung
with her dreams of kingdom to share.
The spear was tossed Elephant counts
one, two, three, four the spear hit the floor
the strongest of them were announced
and all of them left feeling poor.
For days each animal tried luck
to throw up the spear then numbers
the alligators tried from muck
an one by one the spear blunders.
One day Antelope took the spear
and danced a grateful dance to throw
"I count by fives, I win I fear,
one five, one ten, it flies I know."
So Antelope became the Queen
the Kingdom looked to her with pride
one more lesson here to be seen
more than one answer to be tried.
